He was born on August 16, 1948, in Blacks Harbour, New Brunswick, to Marshall and Helen Leavitt.
Steve was predeceased by his beloved wife, Carol Leavitt (2024); his son, Cory Leavitt (2022); his mother, Helen Leavitt (2022); and his father, Marshall Leavitt (2013).
Steve dedicated his life to helping others. He began his career as a counsellor at the School for the Deaf before becoming a Social Worker, where he served his community for many years until declining health led to his retirement. Steve and Carol also opened their home to children in need by operating a group home for many years, providing care, guidance, and a safe place for those who needed it most.
Never one to sit still, Steve always enjoyed keeping busy. Together, he and Carol owned and operated a confectionery store in Saskatoon for several years. Later in life, he found great joy driving a school bus, a job he truly loved and one that allowed him to continue connecting with people every day.
Family was at the heart of Steve’s life. He and Carol shared many happy years camping and traveling to lakes throughout Saskatchewan, creating treasured memories together. He loved spending time outdoors, especially fishing, and was known for his willingness to lend a helping hand. Whether repairing a vehicle, renovating a home, or simply offering his time and skills to someone in need, Steve was happiest when he could help others.
Steve will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, strong work ethic, and unwavering love for his family. His quiet acts of kindness and the many lives he touched will never be forgotten.
He leaves behind his loving children: daughters Kim Leavitt of New Brunswick, Denise Leavitt of Saskatoon, Sheryl Leavitt (Jeff) of Saskatoon, and his son Steven Leavitt (Tyran) of Sherwood Park, Alberta. He was a proud grandfather to Alex Leavitt (Ruby), Andrew Young (Stella), Breanna Forsyth (Dakota), Chelsey Leavitt, Steven Leavitt, and Sophia Leavitt. He was also a cherished great-grandfather to Liam Young and Lukas Leavitt.
Also mourning his loss are his siblings: Lawrence Leavitt of New Brunswick; James Leavitt (Dawn) of Regina, Saskatchewan; Gina (Orville) of Winnipeg, Manitoba; Jeff Leavitt (Datha) of New Brunswick; and Dean Leavitt of New Brunswick, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A Private Family Service will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Mourning Glory – Acadia McKague’s in Saskatoon, where Steve’s life and memory will be honored.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Glengarda Hospice for the exceptional care and comfort they provided to Steve during his final days.
Forever loved, deeply missed, and always remembered.
