September 2, 1971 – October 12, 2023
It is with profound sadness that the family of Tanya Lavertu announces her passing at age 52. Tanya battled colon and liver cancer valiantly for two months. She was surrounded by her family and left this world on her own terms with the assistance of the MAID program at Royal University Hospital (RUH).
Tanya was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Raised by her parents Gilbert and Denise, Tanya was the only girl with three older brothers and this dynamic along with several male cousins shaped her competitive spirit. Tanya attended St. Francis School and Holy Cross High School. After buying her first car, she learned how to change oil and tires. This attention to car care would serve her well later in life. Tanya loved waterskiing, skiing, dirt biking and motor biking. Many of these pursuits occurred at lakes throughout the province, including Lac La Peche and Pickerel Point at Delaronde Lake, or mountains in Western Canada. Her love of water later translated into snorkeling excursions and water adventures in many locales. Tanya explored several career options and worked as an architectural technician at ADA Architecture Inc. for nine years. She met the love of her life Audrey Gottlieb in 2008 and they married in 2012. Together, they created and operated Audrey’s Auto Repair for the past fifteen years. Tanya was very proud of the staff, quality of service and business clientele, many of whom became friends. She mentored many employees and created a family-like environment in the workplace. She was a super multitasker and always willing to help anyone in need. Tanya and Audrey worked hard on their back yards in Willowgrove and Aspen Ridge creating welcoming entertainment spaces for family and friends. Her competitive spirit showed at the annual Garret Games at Delaronde Lake; Tanya finally won her place on the trophy in 2021. Together, Tanya and Audrey explored the world and loved Hawaii, Mexico, Bali and Singapore. They returned to Maui for their tenth anniversary in 2022. More travel was in their future until Tanya’s health declined.
Leaving to honor Tanya’s memory are her loving wife Audrey and stepson James Wirth. Tanya is also survived by her parents Gilbert and Denise; brother Jan (Karen) and children Jordan and Kennedy; brother Brent (Barb) and children Brad (Victoria) and their children Keona, Pascal and Beckett, Justin (Megan Paige), Logan (Jill), Daria (Ron Domingo) and Caleb; brother Gil (Melana Soroka) and children Ashley (Mike) Lester and their children Sawyer, Daphne, Leila, Tillie and Marley, and Garret (d. 2017) and his son Isaiah; mother-in-law Gloria (Suren) Kulshreshtha; father-in-law James Gottlieb (Agnes Chlebec); brother-in-law Tim Walker (Kelly Batchilder) and children Cassandra and Curtis (Danielle) and sons Austin and Carson; sister-in-law Susan (Jim) Bell and son Nathan; sister-in-law Simone (Travis) Zimmerman and son Levi, and sister-in-law Chloe Gottlieb (Keith Swyer) and children Ruby and Fox.
Tanya’s family would like to express gratitude for the exceptional care that Tanya received from the health care professionals at the Saskatoon Cancer Centre, RUH and the Palliative Care Team. In support of Tanya, you are encouraged to make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society. Tanya chose to be cremated and a celebration of her life will be held in June 2024.
