It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Terrance (Terry) Bryce Hurlburt. Terry was an extremely friendly and personable guy with quick wit and humor. He loved to chat with friends and neighbors and anyone he came into contact with. He cherished his lifelong friends who kept in close contact with him despite any distance. Terry was always willing to help others. His family and friends will miss him dearly.
Terry was born July 8th 1946 in Regina, Saskatchewan, and was the chosen son of Harold and Velva Hurlburt of Radville, Saskatchewan, being adopted at 10 months of age. His mother often described how he sat on her knee holding on to the knob of the gear shift the whole trip home to Radville. Terry attended Radville public and high schools where he made life long friends. The neighbours could set their clocks by Terry’s mad dash to school every morning at 5 minutes to 9. Following Grade 12 graduation, Terry taught school in Unger, Saskatchewan, for one year before attending Bemidji College in Minnesota the following year. He then transferred to University of Saskatchewan, Regina Campus for 4 years.
Terry worked with his dad’s business in construction and then in 1974 he moved to Saskatoon where he lived the rest of his life working as a carpenter. He was employed with Cairn's Homes and several other home construction companies earning his Journeyman Certificate in Carpentry before starting work in 1997 as a Maintenance Carpenter with the Saskatoon Public School Board where he worked until his retirement.
In 1976, Terry met his future wife, Barbara Schultz, and they were married in 1979. His sons, Carter and Davis were his pride and joy. He fully supported them in all their endeavors and was active in coaching their sports when they were younger. Terry loved animals, especially his dog Tigger with whom they shared many trips to the cabin and beyond. Terry was so pleased to become a grandfather in 2020 to twin girls, Rosalind and Amelia, and he cherished every minute with them.
Terry loved all sports but especially hockey and was a great fan of the Philadelphia Flyers where his brother-in-law had played. More recently he was an ardent Oilers and Blue Jays fan, and he rarely missed a televised PGA tournament. Terry himself was a lifelong avid golfer starting at age 12 in Radville. In Saskatoon, he was a member of the Saskatoon Golf Country Club for many years. Terry capably built the family cabin at Emma Lake starting in 2000, a peaceful place to relax with family and friends. Over the years he travelled far and wide, from the Maritimes, Philadelphia, Disney World, along with enjoying 10 winters in California with Barb and a NFL trip to Seattle. The journeys didn’t stop there, including multiple trips to Hawaii, a Mediterranean family cruise, and the last big family trip to Phoenix in 2023.
Terry is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Barb, and his sons Carter (Candice) and Davis, and his precious granddaughters, Rosalind and Amelia. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Dave Schultz (Cathy) and nephews Chad (Jen) Schultz (Sebastian) and Brett (Dana) Schultz (Brynn and Wyatt), sister in laws Glenda Schultz (Todd Purnell) and Janet Schultz (Warren Schultz); brother in law, Gary Hudson and nephews Michael Hudson (Lori) (Chanel and Brant) and Jason Hudson (Laura) (Noah). As well he is survived by numerous cousins and friends who shared in his enjoyment of life.
He was predeceased by his parents Harold and Velva Hurlburt, sister, Betty Hudson, in- laws Pauline and Edgar Schultz, brother-in-law Ray Schultz, and great niece, Annalise Schultz.
