With great sadness, we announce the death of Theodore “Ted” Polanik. He passed away on October 20, 2022, surrounded by his wife and children whom he loved dearly. Ted was born in Humboldt, Sask., on March 24, 1948, to Anne and Harry Polanik and grew up nearby on the family farm in Carmel. He married the love of his life, Marg, after the two met at a wedding dance. They would go on to build a life together in Saskatoon, raising three children, Heather, Brett and Brittany. Ted kept his connections to rural life, spending his weekends farming back in Carmel and tending to his vegetable garden. His love of tinkering and machinery led to a 50-year career as a machine shop foreman at Acklands and Fleet-Guide in Saskatoon. Family and faith were important to Ted in his life. He attended St. Patrick’s Parish and later Holy Family Cathedral. As his family grew and he became a grandfather, Ted loved spending every minute he could with his family. He would drop everything to help someone who needed something, big or small. He was often seen at the grocery store shopping for Caramilk chocolate bars for his wife and treats for his kids and grandchildren. He enjoyed summer trips to Waskesiu Lake, going for strolls along the lake and treating his grandchildren to ice cream cones or sweet treats at the bakery. It wasn’t a Sunday morning without Ted putting on his greasy “bacon shirt” and making breakfast for his family after church. On October 20, 2022, Ted passed away after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. He is remembered by his cherished wife of 49 years, Marg, his children Brett (Maria) Polanik, Heather (Brad) McNairn and Brittany (Thomas) Skulski. He was a loving grandfather to Austin, Ava, Carter, Amelia and Elliott. He is now reunited in heaven with his parents, Anne and Harry, his brothers Roman, Peter, Nick, Andrew and Martin, as well as sister-in-law Annette Huber and brothers-in-law John (Janice) Huber and Russell Dagenais. He is survived by his sister Josephine (Ron) Bilan, sister-in-law Norma (Roman) as well as brothers and sisters-in-law Albert Huber, Magdalen Dagenais, Betty (Dennis) Dauvin, Bernard (Gail) Huber, Barry (Marilyn) Dagenais, and many nieces and nephews. Thank you to the many nurses and doctors on 6200 at Royal University Hospital who provided our family with such exceptional care throughout this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to make donations to the Ronald McDonald House to help other families in need, as family meant everything to Ted. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 25, at St Patrick's Parish located at (3339 Centennial Drive).
