Poem written for Jim from Pat McCormick:
They called you my uncle,
The system, that is.
We grew up together,
As far as we could.
Sometimes there were good times,
Sometimes there were bad,
It was what we called life,
It was what we had.
As the years made us older,
And wiser, we said,
We searched for the answers,
To make us right in the head.
Many times there was laughter,
And joy that was pure,
They came when we opened,
Our hearts, I am sure.
Our hearts are the brains that,
We never could heal,
We focused on minds but,
It was our hearts where it hurt.
This isn’t a poem that “they” would applaud,
It doesn’t rhyme well or,
follow the scheme.
To me, that’s all BS and,
structure that binds,
We don’t care, do we,
We’re both out of our minds.
Go easy my Brother,
You won’t be alone,
There is a land of forgiveness,
And Bernice calling you home,
