She grew up in Saskatoon but spent most of her time with her granny who was her person and she loved dearly on her farm at Waldheim. Vera attended Bedford Road Collegiate.
Vera married at an early age and soon became a mother. Vera had four children; Jessie, Abby, Natalie and Iver. With becoming a new wife and mother she had a new home in the Dundurn area. Vera was involved in the community throughout the years in many different ways; working at the base in the kitchen, driving school bus, being a member of the congregation with the Pleasant Point Church. Along the way she made many lasting friendships.
In 1983 Vera’s life took a turn for the best. She had set eyes on Werner Falk and was head over heels. Vera and Werner were married July 6, 1984. Grandma loved being a farm wife alongside Werner. He introduced her to loving driving tractor and going around and around sommerfollowing. She was an awesome grain truck driver and could work the auger like no one else. They traveled here, there and everywhere. Werner showed Vera what it was supposed to be like to be loved as and hard as it was at first she took it all in. They were best friends and there wasn’t many times you would find one without the other.
Family was important to Vera, some may dispute this but even throughout all the ups and downs she had the biggest heart and LOVED being a grandma. You can only imagine when the great grandchildren came along.
It’s hard to describe all that Vera loved and did in a short paragraph because there was so much, we know we will miss some of her passions. She loved with every ounce of her being and she would give anyone the shirt off of her back. She took much pride in and loved spending hours on end making blankets to donate to Ronald McDonald House, Ness Creek and for emergency service vehicles (especially the Dundurn Fire Dept.) to have on hand for patients. Everyone wanted one of her jean blankets. She would be offended if you didn’t ask or take one of her baskets she loved to put together and donate to any and all raffles and fundraisers. She loved writing her column in The Davidson Leader and took much pride in it, she even got all of us subscriptions. Vera was an avid reader, she spent many hours getting lost in her books. Gardening was also one of Vera’s passions, it was her time with her Granny and she always planted way more than she needed, so she could give it to others. And even though Vera hadn’t planted anything this year there are random potatoes popping up throughout the garden for us to give to others. I bet you have never met another person that has gone through as many sewing machines as Vera. We know Big Mur’s will miss her at Bingo as much as she missed coming to play at the end. Please have a ceasar for grams.
We all have our own special memories and stories about Vera J. Falk and we could take up the whole obit section of the Star Phoenix which she may have enjoyed, (the obits were her favorite part of the paper). But how do you summarize one of your heros? An amazing, hardworking, loving human. She took all of her horrible things she endured early on and turned them in to so much good. She called it as it was and if you were offended, so be it. She always said God and her were good friends and she talked to him for us to keep us safe. So God, we are asking you to keep her safe and walk with her. She didn’t ask for the last part of her journey but she was a trooper.
Vera will be forever remembered, cherished and missed deeply by her husband of 39 years Werner, her four children Jessie (Barry), Abby (Phil), Natalie (Rick) and Iver. Her six grandchildren Amanda (Dalyn), Scot (Danielle), Carlie (Cody), Robyn, Christopher (Jordan) and Landon. As well as her eight grandchildren Joseph, Piper, Hunter, Brady, Oscar, Gage, Corbin, Sophie and Bowie. Sister in law Mary, brother in law John and special friend Marion.
Vera was predeceased by her parents George and Linda, step father Abe, brother Bob, sister Hannah as well as numerous aunts, uncles and other loved ones.
If we could only have one more hug to fill our tanks. We love you!
