On Monday, July 7, 2025, a character got her wings. Alice Isabelle Ward could never be forgotten by her loving husband Kenneth Ward. Daughter of the late John Porter Sr. and the late Edith Porter. Beloved sister of Ethel Bruce (late Ray) (late Ross), the late John Porter Jr. and late Fred Porter. Daughter in-law of the late Capt. George and late Allison Ward. Sister-in-law to Marilyn Eddy (late Roy) (late Roland), and the late Darrell Ward (Judy). Aunt of Douglas Boyle (Frances), Donald Boyle (Mary-ann), Ward Eddy (Bonnie), Dennis Eddy, Robert Bruce (Suzanne). Great aunt of Dan Boyle (Vanessa), John Boyle (Jillian), Natasha Bomhof (Tyler), Gunner Eddy, Roger Eddy, Sierra Grey (Peter), Kassidy Bruce, Kyle Bruce. Great-Great Aunt of Lilyanna Boyle, Ethan Boyle, Ivan Boyle, Vincent Boyle, Lea Stoutenburg, Lilly Stoutenburg, Conrad Stoutenburg, and Karson Grey.
Alice became a teacher at the age of 18. She taught during the day and attended Algoma University at night, where she achieved a BA in psychology and sociology. Alice taught at several schools throughout Algoma for 36 years until her retirement in 1994.
Through 63 years of marriage, Alice and Ken lived on the mountain, where she enjoyed a million-dollar view of Tenby Bay. She spent the better part of her life volunteering at the Jocelyn Twp. House of History and coordinating the Jocelyn Twp. Harvest Festival. She could spin a tale with the best of them and her wit could only be described as feisty. If I wrote any more than this, she would be very upset with me.
An enormous thank you to our family of F.J. Davey Home caregivers and friends that supported Alice through her final years. We will never forget it.
