Mom has had her last days in the sun. Audrey passed away peacefully at Tendercare Maple View on Monday, November 17, 2025. Although we are so sad to lose our cherished Mom, Gram, and Great Gram, we are grateful the Lord took her in his arms and healed her pain.
Audrey leaves behind her only child and best friend Jo-Anne Woods (late Kelly), her cherished grandsons, Jacob and Darren (Sarah) Woods, and great grandchildren who she was so proud of Michael, Meadow, and Paige.
Mom grew up on a farm in Little Rapids, the twelfth child of thirteen of Wilber and Gertrude King. Her remaining sibling, Robert "Bob" King has been a rock and a shoulder to cry on for Mom and I all these years. The best brother to Mom, uncle to the boys and I that anyone could ever ask for. Her remaining sister-in-law, Lola King (late Grant) has been a loving caring support to us all. Mom leaves behind many nieces and nephews, all of which she made sure they knew she cared about them and their lives.
Audrey led a full life and met all challenges with determination. She worked hard in her 37-year career with Immigration Canada to become the first female officer in the Sault. She was the first female president of the international group, The Hiawatha Land Law Enforcement Officers Association aka "The Pistol Packer's," spent many years on the board of the John Howard Society, volunteered at the Museum with Christmas Cheer and at our church, Central United. She spent many fun times dancing with the Homespun Cloggers.
In her retirement, she travelled to many of the countries from which she helped her clients immigrate from. She moved to her beloved Nanaimo for 15 years to escape the snow and continued her volunteering there as well. At 73 years old, she took an ESL course and went to China for a year and taught English at a school that supported an orphanage with their earnings.
Illness brought her back to the Sault, 10 years ago. We will be forever grateful for the support and loving care we received from the staff and new friends at Maple View McCarrol Lake. Many friends have helped us through these tough years. Roz, Violet, Joanne; your support and prayers brought so much joy. There are so many caring people to thank, our family and our friends. These last few years the Lord saw we needed help and brought us an angel, Patty Nye. She helped with Mom's care and supported us right until the end. Your love and care will never be forgotten Patty. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East, 705-759-2522). Audrey will be laid to rest privately in Pine Grove Cemetery Ansonia Road, Thessalon. Mom always had an open heart for anyone who was struggling so we ask if you chose to donate (made payable online or by cheque) in her honour please consider Christmas Cheer, the Red Cross or the Easter Seal Society. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the McPhail family.
God gives his hardest challenges to strongest soldiers.
Rest free of pain now Ma, we love love love you.
