I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend

He referred to the dates on his tombstone, from the beginning to the end

He noted that first comes the date of his birth, and spoke the following date with tears

But he said what mattered most of all, was the dash between those years

For that dash represents all the time, that he spent alive on earth

And now only those who loved him, know what that little line is worth

For it matters not how much we own; The cars, the house, the cash,

What matters is how we live and love, and how we spend our dash.

This was read by grandson Clint at Grampa's graveside funeral service on a beautiful autumn day, October 17, 2020.

Fun loving Grandpa of Lindsey Kasch (John), Tracey Cudmore (Erica Aceti) and Clint Cudmore (Lacey Dalton), Curtis Bright (Bridjet Lee), Carly Haliechuk (Eric) and Gregory Bright (Kaitlynn), Anissa Clayton (Brent), Chris Robinson (Sachi), Jamie Robinson, Jennifer Robinson (Jesse Barber), Jeff Robinson (Mariah Rivait) and Stefanie Basawa and Kyle Robinson. Great grandfather and uncle of many. Brother of the late Phyllis Rowe (late Bill), late Elsie Metcalf (Stan), late Jim Robinson (Jean) and the late Louise Fleming. Brother-in-law of the late Verna MacDonald (late Harold), late Vera Roach (late Lynn), late Freeman Moar (late Phyllis) and Fay McClelland (late Austin). Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private family celebration has taken place. Interment Maple Leaf Cemetery. Chuck was the youngest child of Norman and Ora (nee Thompson). They ran the Bayview Hotel in Bruce Mines which was located at the east side of Bruce Bay looking across to the Bruce Mines lighthouse. Beyond that was St. Joseph Island. Chuck recalled that his Dad would take the car across the ice and get supplies at Hilton Beach. When Chuck was 11, the family moved to Desbarats to operate the old Gibson store, which was a meat and grocery market. That Christmas, Ora died and Norman lost his business drive. He intended to leave the store to either of his sons - James or Charles, but both boys chose different career paths.

Colleen recalls meeting Chuck shortly after he moved to Desbarats and thought he was a cute boy and wondered what it would be like to grow old with him.

Little did she know, that this thought would come true.
