It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Darlene Mary Louise Siemers (nee Boissoneau).
Darlene was a devoted mother to Jesse and Jaime. She was predeceased by her beloved children, Christopher and Chantelle (Gary), who remained forever in her heart.
She was the beloved wife of the late Michael Siemers. She was a loving stepmother to Mike’s children and was affectionately known as Grandma Cookie to Rory and Edie.
She was an incredibly proud grandmother to Adia, Eli, Ashtyn, Carson, Amethyst, Christopher, Nola, and Nash. Her grandchildren were among her greatest joys, and she cherished every opportunity to spend time with them.
Darlene was the cherished daughter of the late Joyce and the late Bill Boissoneau. Born on April 30, 1957, she was the fourth of ten children.
She was predeceased by her siblings Diana Jamieson (Allan), Danny Boissoneau (Doreen), and Derrick Boissoneau (Joanne).
She will be lovingly remembered by her siblings Donna Kozak (late Tom), Denise Engelage (John), Danielle Young (late Blair), Donald (Michelle), Dina Seabrook (Paul), and Derinda Lannigan (Tom), along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends whose lives she touched.
Although close as a big family, distance made it harder as it separated us, but she still cherished every one of them. Darlene shared a particularly close bond with her sisters, Danielle and Dina.
Darlene found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved gardening, knitting, sewing, attending her book club, cheering on her beloved Edmonton Oilers, and spending evenings around a bonfire with family and friends. She also had a special love for frogs and delighted in collecting them over the years, creating a beautiful collection that reflected her unique spirit. She treasured the many friendships she built throughout her life, some spanning more than forty years.
She also loved the close-knit community of McCarrel Lake, where neighbours became lifelong friends and kindness was always close at hand.
Darlene chose to see the good in every day and encouraged others to do the same. She often said: “If it rains, look for rainbows. If it’s night, look for stars. There is always a brighter side. Choose happy. Buy that coffee for the person behind you. Smile at the person who looks like they could use one. Be kind.”
She also wanted those who knew her to remember this: “So many friends that have touched my life. But they all know how much they meant to me.”
A special thank you to Nurse Amy Shoust for the exceptional care, compassion, and support she provided to Darlene. Amy went above and beyond to ensure Darlene was comfortable and cared for with dignity. Her unwavering support for Darlene and those who lovingly cared for her during her final days meant more than words can express. Amy truly is a rock star, and we will be forever grateful.
Heartfelt gratitude to Patti Kastikainen for her compassionate care and for opening her home to Darlene in her final days.
