It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our cherished husband, father, and grandfather, Donald. Taken from us too soon after complications following heart surgery.
Adored husband of Carolyn (nee Thompson), treasured father of Hannah-Lee (Eric), Joshua (Aline) and Meghan (Leon). Beloved “Papa Dood” to Colin, Simon, Esther, and Solomon. Best buddy of his faithful kitty Ivan. Dear son of the late Roger and the late Mabel (nee Allan) Ableson. Special brother of Tom (late Colleen), late David, Jim (Gail), and late Linda. Caring uncle of many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Honorary grandpa of many daycare kids.
Donald was a gentle soul who radiated kindness, patience, generosity, and open heartedness to all who he encountered. His calm, steady, selfless presence touched the lives of everyone he met. He loved his family with his whole heart and being and moved in complete harmony and balance with his precious wife Carolyn.
Don gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ as a young man at 20. He shared his faith freely, and he honoured his Saviour with his joyful willingness to serve and help others. Don and Carolyn raised their children in the faith and modelled their lives to reflect the love of Christ.
Don was an electrician who graduated from Soo College and worked for 45 years at Algoma Steel and later at Tenaris. Known to many as The Wizard, Don was a master problem solver, could fix or build anything, and loved nothing more than to use those skills to help others. Through the years he built three beautiful homes for his own family and gave of his time and expertise to help family and friends build theirs.
Don was the model of love in action, and we can’t imagine our lives without him.
