ROMANI, Elsa (nee Volpini), lovingly known as Nonna to so many, passed away at her home on Sunday August 9, 2026 at the age of 97. Elsa came to Sault Ste Marie with her two young children in 1960, following her beloved husband of 54 years (late Lorenzo) who had arrived 4 years previously.
Loved and respected by all, Elsa was a gentle and kind woman who always gave much more than she took. She was the anchor of our family, a woman whose goodness and quiet inner strength was instantly recognized by everyone who met her. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother, an engaged citizen at the Elettra Marconi Society, and an extraordinarily gifted seamstress in her working life. She was a comforting influence, provider and counselor to those in need, a mentor to others, and an example of the goodness of humanity to all.
She leaves behind in deep sorrow at her passing and in gratitude to have been blessed by her love her sons Dario (Julie) and Claudio (Linda); her loving sister Nella (late Evo) who she visited every day to her last day; her grandson Jason whose love and support surrounded her every day; her cherished granddaughters Marina (Andrew), Sarah (Andrew) and Claire (Luc) who she loved deeply and gave her so much happiness to witness their transition from childhood to adulthood; her great-grandson Mason who she adored and was adored by; her recently-arrived great-granddaughter Maggie Elsa who she treasured and who brought her so much joy every day; her dearest niece Debbie (Chris) who cared so much for her and did so much for her; and her nephew Frank (Marie) who never failed to visit her.
Elsa was a selfless woman who is warmly remembered by everyone whose life she touched.
Ti vogliamo bene per sempre, Nonna.
