It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John "Jack" Wayne Hore, who passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, surrounded by his loving family.
Jack was the beloved husband of Lydia for 61 years; loving father of Chris (Cindy) and Darren (Tricia); proud grandfather of Talon (Andrea), Shanagh Gorr (Connor), and Owen; and cherished great-grandfather of Atreyu Hore and Zeppelin Gorr.
He was predeceased by his parents, William and Mona Hore; his brothers, Bill and Ted; and his sister, Claudia. He is survived by his sisters, Ellen Landry (late Donat), Laurel Hendrick, and Darlene Barry.
Jack was also brother-in-law of Paul (Norma), Peter (Charlotte), Mary (Neil), Kathy, and John Warda. He was a loving uncle of many nieces and nephews and a lifelong friend of John and Jennifer McLean, and Pat Davey.
Throughout his life, Jack dedicated much of his time to helping others. Whether serving as a Boy Scout leader in his early teens, volunteering as a mine rescue responder during his mining career, taking on leadership roles in municipal affairs, or simply lending a helping hand to a neighbour, Jack was always willing to step forward when someone needed him.
His commitment to his community was reflected in the many organizations and committees to which he generously devoted his time. He served as a director and later president of the Algoma Residential Co-op, president of the Elliot Lake Granite Club, and president of the St. Joseph's Island Voyageurs Snowmobile Club. His dedication to volunteerism earned him recognition as Volunteer of the Year at the District of Algoma, Province of Ontario, and national levels.
Jack's professional contributions were equally meaningful. As an environmental consultant, he was selected by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador to study air quality surrounding the iron ore mines in Labrador City and provide recommendations for its improvement.
Through all his accomplishments, it was Jack's willingness to help others that truly defined him. He was always there for his family, friends, neighbours, and community, offering his time, knowledge, and assistance whenever needed. It is this generosity of spirit, and the quiet difference he made in the lives of so many, that will be remembered and deeply missed.
