It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the peaceful passing of Josep (Joe) Serazin on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 in his 100th year, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Joe was the devoted husband of 64 years to his beloved wife, Ida nee Lah, and a cherished Tato to Bojana Amadio (Paul) and Susan Pallotto (Bruno). He was a proud Nonno to Matthew Amadio (Gabriella), Danielle Amadio (Nicholas Guido), and Michael Amadio (Bronwyn), and a loving Pranonno to his precious great granddaughter, Scottie Marie Amadio. He was the son of the late Ivan and Marija Serazin, and predeceased by his siblings Mira Ziberna (Milan), Ivan (Draga), Marija Vecchiet (Bruno), Emil (Marija-Meri), Roman, and Romilda Cedolin (Kavdijo). He is survived by his brother Stanislav (Nevica). Joe was also the son-in-law of the late Jozef and Alojzija Lah, and brother-in-law of Stanislav Lah (Marija). He will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Joe was born on July 10, 1926, in the village of Kazlej, Slovenia. From a young age, he knew the value of hard work, helping his family on their land and vineyards and working alongside his father at the local quarry. At just 17 years old, his life took a serious turn when he served as a soldier during World War II. Even in difficult times, Joe found joy. He loved music, played the trombone in a local band, and never passed up the chance to dance a good polka. Those moments of joy stayed with him throughout his life.
At 24 years old, Joe immigrated to Canada, where he worked in the mining and lumber industries in Northern Ontario before his retirement from the Tube Mill on September 8, 1988. Joe and Ida were married in June 1961 in Sault Ste Marie where they built a beautiful life together, raising their two daughters.
Joe was not a man of many words, but his presence spoke volumes. He found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—long walks in nature, a competitive game of bocce, the frequent trips to the casino, and always a glass of wine with dinner. Most of all, he loved his family. He rarely missed a hockey or soccer game, always showing up with quiet pride, to support his grandchildren.
Joe’s life was marked by humility, strength, and resilience. He taught us that a good life is built through hard work, kindness, and showing up for the people you love. His legacy lives on in his family, in the values he passed down.
There will be no formal funeral service at this time. A Celebration of Life in Joe's honour will be announced at a later date. Arrangements Entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. East; 705-759-2522). In lieu of flowers memorial donations (made payable by cheque or online) to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation or the Twinkie Foundation (Supporting families with sick children) would be greatly appreciated by the family. Please visit www.arthurfuneralhome.com obituaries section to leave a message of condolence as a keepsake for the family.
Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure.
Joe will be forever missed and always deeply loved.
Be at peace, Tato. We will carry you with us, always.
