June Iola Jones

June was born on August 12, 1922 at August 12, 1922 in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. June was raised in Goulais River, Ontario by her parents, Gordon and Alma Pickard. She was brought up to be self-confident and dependable. These were traits that would serve her well throughout her life.

    June had seven siblings, three brothers, William, Edwin and Gordon and four sisters, Joyce, Lois, Verlyn and Audrey. When she was four years old she lost her younger sister Audrey to pneumonia. June was close with her siblings and consistently loyal to her family.

      On January 1, 1942 June exchanged wedding vows with Gerald Ambrose Jones at the home of Reverend Dungeon in Goulais River, Ontario. Compassionate and devoted to Gerald, June held endearing, traditional values about marriage and family life. She took the responsibility of marriage to heart, giving it her total commitment. She was a source of strength to Gerald and using her gifts at nurturing one-on-one relationships, she worked hard to make her new family happy.

      June brought the same traditional values in her marriage to bear on how she raised her children. She was a good parent to them, always firm yet fair in her dealings. June was blessed with four children, One son, Gerald (Jerry), and three daughters, Judy, Audrey and Cathy. They were also blessed with nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

      June greatly enjoyed what she did for a living. She was a hard worker who expected the same in return from her co-workers. She was skilled at working effectively in small groups and in one-on-one situations as well as handling solo assignments efficiently. June Iola enjoyed dealing with concrete ideas and could penetrate any amount of fuzzy information to reach the essential facts. Always able to attend to the task at hand, June Iola was excellent at meeting deadlines. She was an efficient worker, one who paid careful attention to detail, allowing sufficient time to complete one task before moving on to the next. Her primary occupation was home maker and bookkeeper for her husband's commercial fishing business. June Iola worked hard to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.

      June liked to experience things first-hand as well as learn about them. This trait carried over into her hobbies, where she was very methodical in how she organized her activities and categorized things. Since she enjoyed her private time, June always tried to allocate a specific time for working on her hobbies. Her favorite pursuits were gardening, knitting, crocheting, and berry picking. June was content to enjoy her hobbies alone but was also willing to share her interests with others.

In her younger days June Iola was an active member of the Batchawana Ladies Club.

      June was a woman who was dedicated and devoted to her faith. She was a founding member of the Batchawana Community Bible Church. She taught sunday school and vacation bible camp. She was a sympathetic woman who valued her beliefs and was willing to work tirelessly for them.

      June enjoyed traveling. Vacations included Alberta, the maritime provinces of Canada and Florida. She expecially enjoyed going to Anne of Green Gables on Prince Edward Island.

      June was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. A dog was always part of the family.

      June Iola Jones passed away on November 11, 2014 in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. She is survived by her sisters, Lois Jones (late Ownie) and Verlyn Smith (Harold), her children, Jerry Jones (Annebelle), Judy Perras (Jerry), Audrey Lamond (William) and Cathy Fleury (Donald), grandchildren, Shauna Gray (Russ), Lori Matthews (Craig), Darryl Lamond (Lynn), Melanie Bouffard (Rick), Jason Fleury (Jessica), Alphee Fleury (Tammy), Daniel Fleury, Jennifer and Amanda Jones, great grandchildren, Tara Johnson (Steve), Shelby and Zachary Gray, Ryan and Justin Matthews, Brayden and Bailee Bouffard, Olivia, Jase, Isaiah, Desiree and Amelia Fleury and great granddaughter, Riley June Johnson. Services were held at Arthur Funeral Home. June was laid to rest on November 13, 2014 in West Korah Cemetery, Sault Ste Marie, Ontario with her loving husband of 72 years.

      Commitment is a key word that can be used to describe the life of June Iola Jones. She was committed to her faith. She was committed to the traditional values that she upheld her entire life. She committed herself to being a hard worker. Most of all, she was committed to those she knew and loved.

JONES, June Iola – On angels wings, a beautiful lady was called home. It is with sadness, yet rejoicing knowing her suffering is over, that the family of June Jones announces her passing at Extendicare Van Daele on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at the age of 92. It gives our family comfort knowing that she is reunited with her husband and her Lord and Saviour. Predeceased by her loving husband of 72 years, Gerald Ambrose Jones. She loved and was loved by those she leaves behind, son Jerry (Annebelle) of Batchawana Bay, Judy Perras (Jerry) of Alberta, Audrey Lamond (William) of Dowling and Cathy Fleury (Donald) of Alberta. Loved Grandmother of Shauna Gray (Russ), Lori Matthews (Craig), Darryl Lamond (Lynn), Melanie Bouffard (Rick), Jason Fleury (Jessica), Alphee Fleury (Tammy), Danny Fleury, Jennifer and Amanda Jones. Great grandmother of 12 and Great Great Grandmother of 1. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her sisters Lois Jones and Verlyn Smith (Harold). Predeceased by her 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Remembered by many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Thursday, November 13, 2014 from 12 noon until 2 pm. Funeral Service to be held in the chapel at 2:30 pm. Rev. Sam Norbo officiating.
