Lilian Irene Harnden

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dearest mother, grandmother, and great grandmother peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Extendicare Mapleview in her 104th year.

Predeceased by her husband, Angus. Cherished mother of Ron Harnden (Lora), Alan Harnden (Janet), Eric Harnden (Sue) and Cynthia Jacobs (Bob). Treasured grandmother of Chad Harnden (Lynne), Jeff Harnden, Kayleigh Harnden, E. J. Harnden (Rachelle), Ryan Harnden (Jasmine), Brad Jacobs (Shawna), Lindsay Jacobs (Dan), Chris Rose (Kristen), Kim Rose, and the late Shane Harnden and Kaycee Harnden. Loving great grandmother of Braeden Harnden, Madison Harnden, Brooklyn Harnden, Maverick Harnden, Camille Jacobs, Cale Jacobs, Lauren Plumpton, baby Nash Harnden, Calyx Rose (Brandon), C.J. Rose, Micah Rose, Gabe Rose, and the late Abby, Ally, and Nate Hallaert. Missed by many nieces and nephews in the United Kingdom and United States.

Lilian was born on August 15, 1923, in London, England. She was one of 13 children. She lived through the horrors of WWII and lost her parents at a young age. After completing her education, she went to work at the War Office in London, England. In the Spring of 1946, she immigrated to Canada as a war bride, sailing on the Aquitania, and landing at Pier 21 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Lilian faced many challenges throughout her life, but she didn’t let them define who she was. She navigated through them with strength, resilience, and a positive attitude. She had many accomplishments but her greatest was motherhood….family played a central role in her life. She loved beyond measure and instilled a strong work ethic and competitive spirit in her children, which has been passed down to her grandchildren. She encouraged her family to achieve goals and dreams and took a front row seat to cheer them on with great pride. She was an avid fan of curling and golf, and her keen mind kept her busy following international news and politics.

Lilian was a champion of courage, compassion and British wit, which she often demonstrated. We bid farewell to this remarkable woman who gave so much love and had the capacity to make each one of us feel loved and special. Rest in Peace mum, until we meet again.

The family offers much gratitude to the staff at Mapleview Extendicare (Ranger Lake) for the kindness and compassion shown to our mum. You went above and beyond to make her feel comfortable and loved. God Bless to you all.

As per Lilian’s wishes, cremation has taken place followed by a private family celebration of life.
