

Matthew Scott Mahoney was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Matthew will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
Matthew was born on January 20, 1979 at Sault Ste Marie Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie. He was the son of Chery and Scott. Matthew grew up in Goulais River and Sault Ste Marie,.
As a young boy, Matthew had a number of interests. Like most children, he enjoyed playing and making up games. He was curious about the world around him and was often eager to explore it. Matthew was an active child who Took part in Baseball, Basket ball, Football, Hockey you name it, he played it! Matt was award athlete of the year among many other awards growing up. In his spare time he liked playing at the park, playing sports, adventuring all over SSM to Goulais River to Landslide Rd. Matthew's memorable achievements included mathematic awards, science and history awards. However, to Matthew, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his friends.
A typical teenager, Matthew had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. He graduated from Bawating School of Hard Knocks in 1998. He enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers. Art Class and Gym. The teacher he enjoyed learning from the most was Mr. Murdock history classes. Matthew always said Highschool was the best time of his life and he never wanted it to end!
Matthew enjoyed his college years, which may have been a challenge with all of the academics, responsibilities, and the sudden freedom that accompanied them, but Matthew was able to manage the balancing act. Matthew never attended college, he was too adventurous to be locked into anything at this stage in his life!
Always considered a “good” friend to those he knew, Matthew enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during his lifetime. While growing up, some of his best friends were Mike Nelson, Adam McMaster ,ZACK, Jeff Gamble, Steve McNaughton, Mackenzie, Mike Buchan, Tara Campbell, Jason Chanda, James Flint, J Pickard, M&M Jones and many many others. Later in life, he became friends with everyone he met! Matthew was a social person, he enjoyed talking and telling stories.
On August 6, 2016 Matthew exchanged wedding vows with Yvonne May lapointe at Mahoney's Homestead of Goulais River , Ontario. Empathic and loyal, Matthew was committed to making his new family happy.
Matthew worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Matthew was blessed with three children, Mason, Hannah and Lylah.
Fortunately, Matthew enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Matthew worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. Matthews primary occupation was Furnace operator at Tenaris. He was employed for 21 years. Matthew always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Matthew enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Matthews favorite pursuits were video games, 4 wheeling, snow machining, boating and fishing and spending time with his family. He was content to enjoy his favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share his interests with others.
Matthew found pleasure in sports. In high school, Matthew played football. In his college years, Matthew continued to stay active by biking! Recreational sports included baseball with his step dad and best mate Nelson. Matthew was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he had the chance to do so. Tops on his list were Football, Hockey, TSN and every sport known to man! He was in a rlong running Hockey pool in Goulais River! SO much so the guy at the bar would call Matthew to see if he was putting his picks in for the week.
Matthew was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. One of his favorites was Ginger. The last years of his life was well spent with his bubs !A therapy dog for the family.
Matthew passed away on July 7, 2021 at Tenaris. Matthew died for his family, he never missed a days work. Lived and died there. He is survived by his loving wife and three beautiful children and parents! Services were held at Arts funeral home. Matthew was laid to rest in Goulias River Cemetery! Gods green country right beside the River.
Simply stated, Matthew was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Matthew leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Matthew Scott Mahoney.

MAHONEY, Matthew Scott - It is with deep sorrow that the family announces Matt's sudden passing on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at the age of 42.
Matt leaves behind his loving wife and soulmate Yvonne, his adored children Mason, Hannah and Lylah who he was very proud of. Also left to mourn are his loving mother Cheryl Mowbray (Ashley), father Scott Mahoney, his sister Catherine, step brother Greg and step sister Carly. Matt is also survived by his cherished grandmother Barb Mahoney and predeceased by his grandparents William Mahoney, Joyce and Herbie Mitchell. Dear son-in-law of Catherine and the late Yves Lapointe. Brother-in-law of Amie Sicoly (Mike) and Renee Buczel (Patrick). Life long best friends of Jason Chanda and Jimmy Flint. Proud Uncle Matt of Annie, Chelsea, Hailey, Chloe, Flora and River. Matt was loved and will be greatly missed by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and true life long friends.
Matt was a proud member of the United Steelworkers Local 9548 and will be greatly missed by his union brothers and sisters. He spent 20 dedicated years as a furnace operator at Tenaris. In his time off, you would find him with his family in his beloved Goulais River home on Lake Superior.

Please call the funeral home between 9 am and 4 pm to register in advance as capacity is limited. A graveside service will follow at Goulais River Cemetery at 2 pm.
