Left to mourn their profound loss are her three children and their spouses: Stephen (Deb), Heather Whitley (Brian), and Daniel (Michelle). She was deeply loved by her thirteen grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren who adored their GG.
Maureen’s greatest joy in heaven would be meeting the One who gave her life meaning, security, and purpose - her Saviour, Jesus. Our mother was eager to be reunited with her husband James and her twin sister Marjory. She was preceded in death by many others who she loved including: her dear sister June (Florie) and brothers Richard and Joseph. Maureen was the beloved sister-in-law of the late Leslie (Isabel), late Eleanor and Ernest, late Samuel and Rose, late Bud and Barb, Margaret (late George), Doug (Susan) and late Lorraine. She was the loved daughter-in-law of Raymond and Jean Tulloch. Maureen was also eager to join her best friends Jen Yule and Marg Windle in heaven and will be missed by her dear friend Libby Rae.
Maureen was a world traveller but there were four places she found the deepest joy.
She loved to be in her kitchen preparing food which she served in abundance to her family, friends, and strangers alike.
Maureen loved the wind! Standing outside on the water’s edge or picking apples on a windy day lifted her heart in joy and thanksgiving.
She loved to be in front of a piano. Music was integral to who Maureen was. She played the organ, piano, and accordion in churches, a cathedral in Europe, in schools and in our living room.
However, our mother was happiest when she was teaching children. Nobody loved kids more than she did! She mourned her retirement from the classroom well into her eighties and was always comforted when surrounded by her grands and great grands!
Our family is forever grateful to the Island PSWs for their loving care and lasting friendships. The last 18 months of our mom’s life were spent at the Ontario Finnish Rest Home. Trusting your vulnerable loved one into the care of strangers is a huge leap of faith. The staff at MKK were exceptional.
The family invites relatives and friends to celebrate our mother’s life with us. Visitation at Island Bible Chapel from 6-8 on Thursday evening and at the St. Joseph Island Free Methodist Church on Friday at 10am. Funeral at 11am. Live stream will be available on the Island Bible Chapel Facebook page. Lunch following the interment at Richards Landing Cemetery.
