

Shirley was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to parents Charles (Red) Gilbraith and Catherine (Kate) Porter. Shirley was raised at the homestead of 272 Second Line West, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
Shirley was raised with 5 siblings. She had 3 older brothers, Charles Robert (Bob/Red), Arnold, Ronald, and a younger brother (Roland) and younger sister (Sharon).
While growing up, some of her best friends were Pearl Plaskett and Gloria Girardi. Later friends included Shirley Hulko, Ellen Hutchison, Sandra Sartor.
Shirley was blessed with five children, two daughters, Cathy and Teresa, and three sons, Robert, Joseph and Angelo. They were also blessed with eight grandchildren, Allison, Mark, Carter, Brock, Jacob, Lindsey, Jonah, Jude.
Shirley worked as a secretary and was employed until her marriage by Cochrane Dunlop Hardware in Sault Ste. Marie.
Shirley loved and lived for her family and spoiled them with her fabulous cooking and baking, especially buttertarts, genettis and pizza.
She was the ultimate hockey and baseball mom and grandmother watching numerous matches for her sons and grandchildren.
Throughout the years, Shirley was an active member of the Our Lady of Lourdes CPTA and a CWL member.
Vested with a deep concern for spiritual development, Shirley recognized that her faith was important to her throughout her life. She was a member of St. Veronica's Parish as well as St. Gregory's parish for over 60 years from the time of her conversion to Catholicism. Before that she was a member of Maxwell United Church.
Shirley passed away on September 23, 2022 at Health Sciences North, Sudbury, Ontario. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Carol, her children Cathy, Teresa (husband Ron), Robert (wife Lori), Joseph (wife Angel), Angelo (wife Melissa); her grandchildren Allison, Mark, Carter, Brock, Jacob, Lindsey, Jonah, Jude; her brother Arnold and sister Sharon Dupuis; her sisters-in-law Viola and Elsie Gilbraith and Rita Gorassini. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Services were held at St. Gregory's Parish. Shirley was laid to rest in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
Shirley will be remembered lovingly by those who knew her.

Loving sister of the late Charles (Viola) Gilbraith, late Ronald (Elsie) Gilbraith, Arnold (late Gloria) Gilbraith, late Roland (Ann) Gilbraith and Sharon Dupuis (late John). Sister-in-law of Rita (late Richard) Gorassini, late Guido (late Dolores) Santa Maria and the late Rev. Angelo Santa Maria. Shirley will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Mom loved her family dearly and selflessly and was always there for us in everything we did. She is our inspiration and will be deeply missed.
