GORDON, Stanley Foster “Stan” - It is with great sadness to announce the Gordon family has lost our patriarch, our hero, our dad, Stanley Foster Gordon. He passed away at the Sault Area Hospital on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at the age of 82.
Originally from Sudbury, Ontario, he brought his wife Frances to Sault Ste. Marie in the late sixties to start a new job at Sault College (then known as Cambrian College) and to raise a couple of kids (Todd and Lorelee). He certainly chose the right vocation. He was in his element as a teacher and he was great at it. He was kind, attentive and patient. He saw and encouraged the potential in all his students. He loved helping his students learn and watching them flourish. He was also forever a student, learning and trying new things every day.
Pre-retirement he was generous and kind to everyone, lending a hand or offering advice no questions asked. Post-retirement? He was the very same, bending over backwards to help anyone who reached out. Yeah, he was one of those guys!
Dad was an avid cyclist. Whether it was for transportation to work or pleasure, he loved to ride his bike every day. In his later years he converted to a trike with electric assist should he need a boost on his rides. Even when he could no longer ride, he still tinkered with his trike. He loved it that much.
His main hobby in life was to always try to make things better, be it a kind word, a comforting hand on a shoulder or wielding tools to tear something apart and rebuild it. In fact, we called him 'Mr. Fix It'. He was the 'MacGyver of Everything', as there was nothing he wouldn't tackle: computers, plumbing, wiring, electronics, cars, home improvement...you name it, he would fix it.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Frances; son Todd (Lisa) and daughter Lorelee (Drew).
We share our time of sadness and happy memories with our extended family. Predeceased by his parents James and Isabel Gordon. His sister Myrna Gingrich (the late Douglas), their kids Tara & Scott and Stan's late brother, Kenneth Gordon (the late Susan) and their kids, Mary, Kathy and Debbie. He had special relationships with so many other family, friends and former students. We share this loss with all those he touched with his kindness.
As per his wishes there will be no service, but we encourage you to privately celebrate his memory and legacy any way you wish. If you wish, memorial donations in Stan’s honour (payable by cheque or online) to an animal related charity or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East, 705-759-2522). Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Gordon family.
Husband, father, brother, friend, we remember and love you always.
