William Garnet McBride

Born on November 18, 1934, in Blind River, Ontario, William “Bill” Garnet McBride passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories, unwavering devotion to family, and many friendships.

He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Leonard "Roy" McBride and Evelyn McBride, and his sister, Gail Calvert along with ex-wife & lifelong friend Julia McBride-Bibby (nee Fields). He is lovingly remembered by his children Bryant (Tina), Kimberly, and Christine (George), as well as his sister Barb, brothers Bud, Al Wayne, and Ron. His absence will be felt everyday by his grandchildren Jefferey, Jake (Jared), Mari and Cleo along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

His parents moved to Sault Ste Marie when Bill was 6. He attended McFadden Elementary School and graduated from Sault Technical and Commercial High School (“Tech”) in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. His passion for technology led him to Ryerson University, where he studied Radio and Television Technology. After receiving his diploma he began working at Union Carbide Linde, Canada.

He dedicated 41 years of service to Union Carbide Linde (formerly Praxair), where he earned the respect of his colleagues through his strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment. While on one of his cross-country driving adventures to Las Vegas in August 1970 he met Julia Fields in Chicago, Illinois. Their chance meeting grew into a loving marriage and together they built a wonderful family in Sault Ste Marie rooted in love, and unwavering support. Even after their divorce they remained dear friends until Julia’s passing in 2025. They both always put their children & grandchildren first.

A devoted family man, he treasured every opportunity to spend time with his children and grandchildren as well as his brothers Bud & Al. Retirement allowed him to enjoy one of his greatest passions—travelling to visit family in Boston, New York, and New Orleans, while also spending most of his retirement winters soaking up the sunshine in New Port Richey, Florida.

He wasn’t afraid of an adventure, with a curiosity for the world. His travels took him across many countries, creating memories wherever he went. Whether exploring new destinations or enjoying the familiar comforts of home, he embraced life with a smart wit, enthusiasm and optimism.

He also had a lifelong love of golf. Whether watching tournaments or spending a day on the course with family and friends, golf brought him immense joy and many treasured moments.He will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, kind heart, quiet strength, and deep love for his family. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the stories he shared, and the many lives he touched. While his passing leaves a profound sadness, his love and the memories he created will remain with his family and friends forever.
