

Josephine Hernandez Barnhill, or known to all as “Nanno” 76, was called Home on Thursday, October 17, 2013, after a courageous fight against pancreatic cancer.
The Savannah native was a communicant of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and a graduate of St. Vincent’s Academy, class of 55’. She was a retired business women who owned and operated Beads Unlimited for many years and Pop’s Crab Pot. In later years her life’s joy and love were spending time with her eight grandchildren. She was a beautiful, radiant spirit who would light up any room with love and laughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents Perry J. and Josie Jung Hernandez, two brothers, Perry J. Hernandez, Jr. and Charles F. Hernandez. Surviving her is the love of her life, Douglas E. Barnhill, her husband of 56 years, who spent his every moment caring for her during her battle with cancer. She is also survived by her son, Stephen D. Barnhill, M.D. (Amy I. Barnhill) her daughter, Maria Barnhill Gibase (Frank Gibase, M.D.) of Vidalia, Georgia . She is survived by her sister, Julie Hernandez Blair, and her eight grandchildren: Stephen, Alyssa, Nicholas, and Christopher Barnhill; Frank, Robert, Joseph and Tessa Gibase as well as many nieces and nephews.
The Rosary Service will begin at 5:00pm on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist followed by visitation with the family from 5:30pm -7:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00a.m. Monday, October 21, 2013 at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist with the Reverend Thomas Peyton officiating with burial following at the Bonaventure Cemetery, Greenwich Section .
