
He was born in Columbus, Ga., and was a graduate of Brewton Parker College and attended Mercer University in Macon, Ga.
He was retired from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Department, as a Deputy Sheriff after 28 years of loyal service. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Police.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Temple, where he served on the Board of Deacons, and was Director of the Media Ministry at the Church. He was Ordained as a Baptist Minister, August 20, 1978. Ron was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, son, and uncle.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Fahning Carter of Savannah, Ga; 2 sons, Christopher and Matthew Carter of Savannah, Ga; his parents, Rev. Ronnie and Nora Martin Carter of Melbourne, Fla; and 2 sisters, Rhonda Gauger of Jacksonville, Fla, and Robin Fahning of Savannah, Ga; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Fairhaven Funeral Home – Hubert C. Baker Chapel.
Mr. Carter will be taken to the church at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to lie in state.
Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Temple, with interment in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
