Bernadette my older sister was born in Guyana South America on 23 August 1936. She grew up in Buxton a small village on the east coast of Demerara. She attended St Anthony’s RC primary school and later St. Joseph’s high school a school run by the Sisters of Mercy. On completion of her secondary education Bernadette joined the Bank of Baroda where she learnt the nuances of cooperative banking. In the early 60’s she emigrated to England and resided in Chelsea where she met Michel who at the time was in London broadening his experience in cooperative banking. Having fallen in love they decided on an early marriage as Michel period of training was about to end and was obliged to return to Geneva. Bernadette was blessed at their wedding with having at that time three elder brothers living and studying in London. Compton her eldest brother led her down the aisle with Fielden and Anthony in attendance. Michel subsequently returned to Geneva and several months later Bernadette joined him. There they continued their careers in banking. Many years later Michel and Bernadette left Geneva emigrated to Canada and set up home in Montreal close to Anthony. In 2013 after a short illness Michel passed away. Bernadette continued living in Montreal and became the principal carer for Anthony who by then was bed ridden with Parkinson. After Anthony’s death she moved to Toronto and she and Alma took up residence at Presentation Manor a choice influenced by the connection with the Scarborough Fathers and their missionary work in Guiana. In life Bernadette and Michel travelled extensively - Lourdes Rome Guyana Canada and made several trips to London. Bernadette was a very loving and very sensitive person extremely generous warm hearted and kind person. Her leisure time was spent reading and listening to music.
