Dear Lolo,

Not a day goes by that I don’t hear your voice singing “Spanish Eyes” and “Release Me.” Our family gatherings will never be the same without you.

I am so grateful to have had you as my Lolo. You have been there for me for as long as I can remember. From when I was little, going horseback riding in Pangasinan and calling you “Lolo Kambing” because you smelled like the farm, to having you and Lola by my side on my wedding day. It was truly a blessing to have your love and support on such a special day. 

But it’s the little things about you that I’ll miss the most. The way you’d point at things while we watched TV, and I’d try my best to explain them to you in broken Tag-lish/ Filipino accent, and you’d nod in approval. Or how, whenever you got a hold of the mic at our family parties, it was game over. It was time for the Lolo Engelbert concert. Or how you were always down to take a shot with us and play the chaotic games at our parties. 

Thank you, Lolo, for giving us our family. For being a father to Dad and his siblings, and a grandfather to me, my brother, and our cousins. Thank you for the memories we shared that I will cherish forever.

I will miss you so much. I find comfort in knowing you’re watching over us - singing karaoke, sitting peacefully under a tree in the province. I love you always.

Dear Lolo, 

Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for me and my family. Growing up, I remember our time together being quiet, filled with one-word conversations, arm nudging, and pointing. I remember the moments being home alone together, with only the sound from the T.V in the background, as I tried to start conversations with you. The conversations wouldn’t get very far since I knew very little Tagalog and no Ilocano. Now, hearing everyone reminisce and share their childhood stories about you, I realize how much more there was to learn about your life. I’m sure you have so many experiences and funny moments to tell, I only wish I could have learned more about them directly from you. 

Even though things were quiet when we were alone  together, I remember how different it was when you had a karaoke mic in your hand. I could always tell when it was your turn and it never failed to make me smile. Because of you, I’ll always associate Engelbert songs with your voice. Honestly, I think you sang them better than he did and I’m sure our neighbours would also agree. 

I’m going to miss hearing your voice and seeing you at family gatherings. You’ve always looked after us and I know you’ll continue to do so from above. 

Rest easy Lolo, thank you for all the love and memories.

I’ll never forget your presence in my life. 
I write this now with a heavy heart for Lola and my family. Thank you for being the person you were all these years - a lolo to me, my brothers, and cousins, and a father to my mom and uncles. 
Looking back, I cherish the memories we had in my childhood. Growing up, I had you around, also with Lola, to take care of me when we lived in the apartment. We would play cards, watch tv, and you’d play with me and my brothers. You always had the loudest snores when we would sleep in the same room. I remember you were very patient with me, and I knew you loved me despite the language barrier. We would often talk in very simple phrases like “Lolo - IM DONE POOPING” or “Lolo, I’m hungry”. Looking back, I realize how sweet those days were as a child, and I miss you dearly.
Living at Terraview, you’d always walk with my brothers and me to school. You tended to the garden, and you loved sitting outside. Occasionally, a pair of socks of mine would go missing, and they would be on your feet, but I never got upset, and I always found it kind of funny. Because if you’d ask, we’d give it to you, but you had to be mischievous like that.
Later on, after we moved to Ellesmere, I knew you were always with my Lola. Any time we came over, you’d ask if we ate, or you’d give us cash, and we’d always try to refuse. I wish I got to know you more then. I remember anytime I visited you and Lola wasn’t home, you’d ask where she was out of worry. I know you cared about her as much as she did about you. 
So I hope I can be a little more like you in that way. I want to be there for Lola and for my family in that regard. I cherish the time I got to spend with you and all the moments that we got to share. You were always the best singer at the family gatherings. I’m going to miss your voice on the karaoke machine. 
Thank you for making this life possible for me and my family. I hope you can rest easy in heave.

Words cannot fully express the depth of my gratitude and the love we have for you.

From the very beginning, you and Mamang gave me one of the greatest gifts of my life; your beautiful, kind, and loving daughter, along with your grandchildren. You welcomed me into your life and placed your trust in me. That trust has meant everything to me, and I have carried it with deep respect every single day.

You were not just my father-in-law; you became a true part of my life and our family. Through your love, guidance, and quiet strength, you helped shape the home we built together.

There are countless memories of you that I will always keep close to my heart and cherish deeply. Every time we saw each other, you would always ask if I had eaten, gently insisting that I have more; a simple question, yet one that held so much of your love and concern. You were always ready to step in when we cleaned outdoors or trimmed tree branches, and I would watch in quiet admiration as you secured and tied everything with such precision and care. Your remarkable skill, your steady hands, and your unwavering attention to detail never ceased to impress me.

I am especially grateful for the love you showed our three children. You were always there for them: holding them, caring for them, and playing a steady and meaningful role in their lives as they grew.

You gave careful attention to the little things that mattered most; taking them to school, making sure they were safe, well-fed, and cared for. More importantly, you shared your wisdom. You guided them with kindness, teaching them right from wrong and encouraging them to grow into better people. Your influence will live on in who they are today and in who they will continue to become.

May God bless your soul. Your memory will live on in our hearts—always remembered, always cherished, and forever deeply missed.

Dear lolo,

Thank you for everything you have given us. Whether it’s our lives, or the small things, we will all miss you dearly. If it wasn’t for you, we wouldn’t be here right now.

When I look back to you we’re still with us, I cherish those moments whenever I think about you. I remember you walking me and my brother home from school, and giving us money whenever you could. You and Lola used to take care of us when our parents weren’t home. The scrambled eggs that you and Lola prepared us, I remember yelling “IM FULL!” or maybe even “IM DONE!” whenever I was finished eating. I also especially loved showing you my tiger when I was little. Thinking about it, those moments were loving, kind and sweet and the joy of you being able to pick us up.

We want to be as loving as you, in every way possible. I remember you getting scared because I was in the pool for too long, and that makes me realize that you care for us dearly. You were a great lolo to me, my brothers, my cousins, and a good father to your children. 

I wish I got to know you better, and I would love to be like you to future children or grandson(s). I hope you have a great time in heaven, it’s time to rest now. We will never forget our dearest memories with you.

To Lolo,

Thank you for everything. Growing up I spent a lot of time with you and Lola. I remember the times at the small apartment when I’d always sleep over and watch TV with you. There was also times when I would struggle to fall asleep, and you would sit there with me and comfort me. When I was younger, you’d always be the one to pick me and Leo up from school. We would always run and fool around, yet you were so patient with us. A fond memory I have of you is watching YouTube with you, and you loved those old Filipino dramas, action movies, and occasionally boxing. I feel like over time, I stopped trying to reject you when you gave us some allowance. I gladly accepted it because I knew it was a way you showed us love. Also, I’m glad you liked my fashion, because Mommy often told me that you liked the pair of pants, or the pair of shoes I was wearing, and you asked her to get the same ones for you. There was so many funny moments that you had that always made me and my brothers laugh. I realize now that even the smallest things meant the most to me, and to us. And every single time we had a family event, you were always there. 

Lolo, thank you for everything you’ve done for me, my brothers, and our family as a whole.

Hello Lo,
I hope you’re in a better place now where there’s no more pain and suffering. I miss you, and I know I will miss you even more with each passing day. Thank you for all the love, guidance, and memories you’ve given me—they will always stay in my heart.

I will always cherish our moments in Baruan, especially the times I spent my vacations there as a kid. Those days were simple but full of warmth and happiness because I was with you. You made that place feel like home, and those memories will forever be one of the most special parts of my life.

I’m Bella and I’m Bay.
Bella and Bay: Lolo Talin, we’re so excited to come to Baruan because my daddy Rommel said you’re going home soon.
Bella: It’s so sad that we can’t see you in person anymore. You said when I was a baby that I looked like my dad.
Bay: Unfortunately, we never had the chance to meet you in person and spend time with you.

You are the first one in our family to pass away, and navigating this loss feels so new and so heavy for all of us.
We all knew Papang through his passions: his karaoke and his garden. We will never forget his voice. Whether he was singing "Don’t Forget to Remember Me," "Only You," or his soulful renditions of "Unchained Melody" and "I Can't Stop Loving You," he sang them with all of his heart.
I am so grateful for the last 19 years we had with you in Canada. I got to see a side of him I hadn't known as a child—watching him help my Mamang, babysit my three boys. He gave them the time and the gentle attention that he wasn't always able to give us when we were young, and that is a memory I will treasure forever.
Papang, thank you for the life you gave me. Our relationship wasn't always perfect, but it was deeply felt. As we promise  that all the care and attention we gave to you will now be given to Mamang.
My last wish was for you to see the house renovation your children gifted to you—the home you always wanted. It is almost finished. But I realize now that you have moved on to your eternal home in heaven.
I am going to miss our time together so much—even the long hospital visits and doctor appointments. I’ll especially miss the times every  blood work, where we’d sit and wait for hours just for a urine sample to be done. 
Looking back, I would do that again a million times over without a single complaint, just to have that time with you.
After those long days, we’d always go out to eat together; those were our true bonding moments. Like clockwork, the conversation would drift toward the never-ending house renovations and the inheritance properties back home—topics we could talk about for hours.
Your voice and your melodies will remain in our hearts forever. We love you, Papang. You will never be forgotten.

Dear Papang Talin,

He’s such a simple, quiet, loving and respected father. Thank you for being my father. Looking back, I remember anything I visited you and Mamang here in Terraview, you’d always ask me, ‘How are you?’ and ‘How was your flight?’ My answer was always, ‘I’m doing well, and it was fine and smooth.’ Thank you, Lord, for my safe flight.

I cherish the time, the moments and all the memories, like watching TV, movies and sports. Papang is also my best singer at family gatherings. I’m going to miss your voice, especially the song ‘Don’t Forget to Remember Me.’

Thank you for making this life possible for me and my family. We hope you can rest well in heaven. I miss you, Papang

I’m so heartbroken and deeply saddened by your passing. I didn’t even get to kiss and hug you. I’m also so sorry you didn’t get to see and enjoy the house we gave you and Mamang. I just had such hope that we’d have a chance to see each other again and reconnect. 
Thank you so much for your pension; it’s meant for you to enjoy, but instead, you’ve given it to me so generously. Pang, I know I’m the troublemaker among my siblings, but I love you so much. Pang, you’ll always be in my thoughts and heart. It’s comforting to know that there’s no more pain and suffering, and you’re now in heaven with God. Rest in peace, Pang. I will miss you so much.
