Elizabeth Diesberger

October 25,1939 - April 23, 2026

It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Elizabeth Diesberger, on April 23rd, 2026. With family at her side, she succumbed to her many health challenges at the Scarborough General Hospital. She was 86.

Loving wife to Henry, Elizabeth was born in 1939 to Katherine and Peter Miller. She lived in the little German village of Hrastovac, in former Yugoslavia, until the war came. They moved to Germany and then came to Canada when she was a young adolescent. With her mother and 2 brothers, as well as her maternal grandparents, they lived in Harrow, Ontario until she met Henry at a dance. They had much in common, as he was also from the same village in Yugoslavia. It was love at first sight. They married in 1960, settled in Toronto, and started a family.

Devoted mother to Ingrid and Bruno, Oma to 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth never tired of doing special things for those she loved. She was kind, gentle, patient and caring. Whether it was making a favourite soup for a grandchild, or enough Christmas cookies to give all the children and grandchildren a tin to take home every year, she was always present and available to her family. She took pleasure in her garden, and cooking everyone's favourite dishes. She especially enjoyed holidays, keeping special traditions that her family enjoyed year after year. Even in sickness she managed to colour Easter eggs.

She cherished her friendships, of which many lasted a lifetime. She was also a faithful member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church for over 60 years.

Special thanks to the Palliative Home-care team, as well as the many doctors and nurses at Scarborough General Hospital, where mom spent many long hours. A special thank you as well to the Palliative staff during mom’s final days. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to a local palliative care organization or hospice.

Visitation from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. with funeral service to follow on Saturday May 16th, at the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1684 Victoria Park Ave., North York.
