Elwood Wayne Inwood

April 19, 1944 - August 23, 2026

Al (Elwood) Inwood passed away suddenly in hospital on Sunday August 23, 2026. Born April 19, 1944, in Bancroft Ontario. Al was the first-born son of the late Arthur and Nora Inwood. He has three siblings. He is survived by his two sisters, Doris who lives in Houston Texas and Marlene who lives in Barrie Ontario. He was predeceased by his brother Roger.

Al married the love of his life, Bonnie, March 1st, 1969. They shared a loving, devoted and lasting marriage for 57 years and together raised two sons, Jason and Ryan.

Al left home at the young age of 17 and moved first to Belleville and then to Toronto to make his way in the world. He eventually settled into a job at Bathurst Containers where he worked as a Lead Hand in the Shipping Department. He later got his commercial driver's licence and became a long-distance truck driver, working for

Highland Transport, BMD Transport, Guardsman Transport and Griffith’s Laboratories. He moved from Griffiths Laboratories to Trimac Transportation in the Liquid Bulk Division. At Trimac for many years he hauled as an independent owner operator all

across North America. He later became a driver/trainer. While continuing to run trips locally he trained new drivers on the complexities of loading and unloading a tanker under pressure.

During his time at Trimac he was given the prestigious honour of becoming a Road Knight. This is a program sponsored by the Ontario Trucking Association where an elite group of professional drivers represents the trucking industry, visiting schools, community groups and events to promote highway safety and the economic role of trucking. He also was nominated for the “Highway Star Magazine” Trucker of the Year award and came in second to the winner in 2004. Al had a very strong work ethic and was very well known and respected in the industry. Al was an avid sports fan, devoted to the Maple Leafs and Blue Jays. He also was very actively involved in sports. He coached both sons in their summer and winter hockey leagues. He also played for the Griffiths Company Baseball Team. He also played hockey well into his 50’s at summer and winter shinny leagues and also in a competitive industrial men's league where he and his oldest son Jason played on the same team. He also loved to fish and hunt, with wife Bonnie getting her hunting licence early into their marriage and joining him during the hunting season every year. Al was hard working and very handy, making friends wherever he went. He has had some lifelong friends for over 70 years. He was always very friendly and helpful to friends and neighbors.

In keeping with Al’s wishes, there will be visitation only at Paul O’Connor Funeral Home at 1939 Lawrence Avenue East, Scarborough, Ontario on September 5th, 2026, between 2:00-4:00 and between 6:00-8:00pm felled by a private cremation.
