Giuseppina was born December 18, 1941, in Piane Crati, Cosenza, Calabria, Italy. As a young woman, she courageously left her home and immigrated to Canada all on her own by boat to begin a new life.
It was in Canada that she met her neighbour, Giuseppe Canini, who would become her beloved husband. Together, they built a life, a home and a family that would continue to grow for generations.
Giuseppina was a strong and incredibly independent woman who loved her family deeply. Her home was always open, her table always had room for one more, and there was almost always something cooking or food she wanted you to take home.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Andrea (Caterina) and Antonella (Bruce); her grandchildren, Lisa (Cooper), Joseph, Vanessa (Ior), and Katy (Darien); and her great-granddaughter, Elysia.
Giuseppina is now reunited with her beloved husband, Giuseppe, her parents, Domenico and Chiara, and her in-laws, Andrea and Lavia.
She is predeceased by her siblings, Angelo (Antonietta), Maurizio (Maria), Francesco (Carmela), and Maria (Franco).
She will be dearly missed by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ernesto (predeceased by Cesidia), Luciano (predeceased by Domenica), Domenica (Giuseppe), Angelo (predeceased by Jean) and Mario (predeceased by Heather), as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Some of the most cherished memories of Giuseppina are the simple ones: gathering around her table, sharing a meal, laughing, telling stories and simply being together. She created a home where family was always at the centre.
Her greatest legacy is the family she and Giuseppe built together. The love, traditions, strength and values she passed down will continue through her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
Although we will miss her dearly, we can find comfort knowing that she is now reunited with those she loved and lost and that the memories taken from her are returned forever more.
Giuseppina will forever be loved, remembered and carried in the hearts of her family.
Visitation will be held at Paul O'Connor Funeral Home, 1939 Lawrence Ave. E, Scarborough, ON, M1R 2Y8, CA, on September 17, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and again on September 17, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
A Funeral Mass will take place at St Lawrence Martyr Church, 2210 Lawrence Ave E, Toronto, ON, M1P 1V6, CA, on September 18, 2026, at 10:30 am, The Funeral Mass will be available via Livestream by visiting https://fweb.tv/261037 Following the Funeral Mass an Entombment at Highland Memory Gardens, 33 Memory Gardens Ln, North York will take place.
