Ivan was born in Nyiregyhaza, Hungary. He met Agnes, the love of his life, while studying at Sopron University. During the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, they escaped to Austria with fellow students and faculty and married in St Wolfgang shortly thereafter. From there they immigrated to Canada and Ivan completed his degree at University of Toronto and had a successful career in geotechnical engineering which lasted into his 85th year.
Predeceased by his sister Zsu, Ivan was the loving husband to Agi, devoted father to Christina (Mike) and Yvette (Gavin). He adored his grandchildren Adryanne (Pierre-Alexandre), Tristan (Inayat), Maxine (Justin), Simone, and Madeleine. He was a proud great grandfather to Rémi and Eloise.
Widely known as a true gentleman with an excellent sense of humour, Ivan was generous with his time and loyal to his many friends. He was a great listener who served as a role model and mentor to many. Cultured and debonair, he was occasionally compared to a certain Mr. Bond.
Ivan lived a life made rich by travel across 6 continents as well as a love of literature, classical music, and opera. He was an avid tennis player, photographer, and lover of nature. He was devoted to his profession and fully committed to any work he took on, but what he cherished most was the time he spent with his family. He was a gift to us all.
