We are saddened to share the passing of John Reilly who has left us at the golden age of 99. John will be greatly missed by his family, beloved father to Deborah (Peter), Donna (Steven), Sandra, and Angela (Brent). He will be forever in the hearts of his grandchildren, Jonathan, Stephanie (Jacob), Jason, Sean, Justin (Sarah), Dean, Connor, Vanessa and Olivia and great-grandchildren Charlotte and Sebastian.
John was born to Annie & John Reilly at Toronto General Hospital on December 30, 1926 and spent most of his young life in the Leslieville area of Toronto. John was one of 2 siblings, and remained connected throughout his life to his sister Anne (Annie) Morton and her family. Leslieville is where John met his loving wife Doris Imogene Reilly (Wegg) who passed on August 13, 2021. After they were married, they settled in their home which is where they raised their family and where John resided until his passing.
While growing up John was always looking for things to do and started working in garages and at the age of 17 commenced work at Foreman Marine until 1945. John then ventured to Lake Nipigon to work at a bush camp where he worked for the next 4 years. John travelled back to Toronto and in 1951 was hired at IBM where he remained a loyal and dedicated IBM employee until his retirement in 1991. John developed many friendships over the years while working on cars and fixing almost anything . He was always offering a helping hand. John was also a very handy carpenter and was continuously working on home projects to make improvements for his growing family. His family has been blessed with many fond memories of great times spent swimming in the backyard, camping or travelling to Florida. These memories will be treasured forever.
John will forever be in the hearts of his family and friends.
He will be remembered for his caring heart, his love for his family and for his beloved wife Doris with whom he has now joined. Truly a testament of what marriage and family is all about.
The family would like to extend special thanks to all the doctors and nurses at North York General Hospital on the 5th floor who showed such care and compassion for him in his final days. Within the past year John was supported by many individuals to ensure he was able to remain in his home. Thank you to the staff at VHN with special thanks to dad’s PSW’s Emily and Girlie who provided special care
