Maria Dos Anjos Ferreira Melo

A devoted mother, grandmother and pillar of her faith community, Maria passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2025.

Born on October 25, 1943, to Maria do Rosario and José Galhardo in Candelária, Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Açores, Portugal. Her unwavering faith guided her throughout her life.

She is predeceased by her husband, the late José Artur de Melo to whom she was married for more than 27 years.

As a mother of two and grandmother of six, Maria Dos Anjos instilled her strong values and religious beliefs in her family.

Along with her late husband and family, Maria worked tirelessly campaigning for a Portuguese church to be built in Scarborough. The very first masses where performed in her home. They were the first Mordomos of this church- Nossa Senhora de Rosário Catholic Church. She was a founding and active member of the Irmandade Do Divino Espirito Santo de Scarborough.

Predeceased by her older brother Manuel Dos Santos Ferreira (Julieta Natália de Lima). Survived by her two sisters Maria de Lurdes Ramalho (Antonio) and Regina Maria Machado (John).

She is survived by her two loving sons Emanuel, and Steven (Jennifer). Cherished Vavó to Lucas, Jackson, Jacob, Benjamin, Nicholas and Daniel.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the intensive care unit at Scarborough Health Network, Centenary Hospital for their compassionate care.

She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

A visitation for Maria Dos Anjos will be held Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 8:00 at Paul O'Connor Funeral Home, 1939 Lawrence Ave. E, Scarborough, ON M1R2Y8.

A Funeral Mass will occur on Friday, October 24, 2025 at 10:30 AM in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 2950 Midland Ave, Toronto, ON M1S 3K8. Interment at Pine Hills Cemetery and Funeral Centre, 625 Birchmount Rd, Toronto, ON M1K 1R1.
