Born in Colborne, Ontario, and predeceased by Kenneth, her husband of 32 years, and sisters Marion (Joseph Bordignon); Mary (Edward Magee); Margaret (Angelo Gaetan) and parents, Mary and John Delaney. An elementary teacher over five decades beginning with one-room schoolhouses in Burnley and Ballycroy through to Our Lady of Fatima in Scarborough, Marjorie influenced thousands of children as well as her colleagues. Still, she had the greatest effect on her sons, Frank and Dan, along with numerous nieces and nephews. An avid participant and watcher of sports, she remembers sitting behind the penalty box at Maple Leaf Gardens with her uncle and learning new phrases from “Red” Horner.
Marjorie was a lifelong fan of figure skating, especially the skill and artistry of Brian Orser, Underhill & Martini, Kurt and Elvis. But her favourite pastime was baseball, spending countless afternoons and nights at home, in the North Grandstand at Exhibition Place or the 500 level of the Dome. A treasured memory was going to Game Four of the 1992 World Series. During her life and especially after retirement, she loved to travel, venturing on bus tours throughout North America and Europe, to destinations such as London, Savannah, Charleston or just wandering across the rocks at Peggy’s Cove.
She wished to express her appreciation for all of the medical assistance that she received during her life, especially Doctors Anthony Diniz, John Flannery and, lastly, Deborah Selby and the staff of K1-East at Sunnybrook who made her comfortable in the final months.
Visitation will be held Friday at the Paul O’Connor Funeral Home between 2-4 and 6-9 p.m., with mass of Catholic funeral Saturday at the Franciscan Church of St. Bonaventure at 10:30 a.m., followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Thornhill.
“The time for my departure is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
