It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Cobitz at the age of 90 on August 31, 2025. Shirley is survived by her four children, Tom (Ruilan) Chris (Lorri), Cheryl (Harry) and Kim, and her sister Brenda. Her legacy extends to her five grandchildren Cristin (Scott), Lise (Kreg), Connor (Sabrina), Patrick and Kurtis (Paige) and six great grandchildren Adrien, Teagan, Chase, Camden, Zoe and Oaklynn. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Tom, brothers Neil, Earl and Norman and sisters Noreen and Helen.
Growing up in Montreal, Shirley moved to Toronto after she got married where she found herself tending a variety store and raising a family. Happy to leave the store, Scarborough became her lifetime home where many memories were made.
Shirley had boundless positive energy reflected in her devotion to family. She was the heart of the home where her children, grandchildren, siblings and extended family were welcomed with love and laughter. Shirley’s youthful exuberance was evident when spending time with her grandchildren. As a passionate gardener she made the outside of her home a colourful vision and was happy to share her extensive knowledge. Shirley was an avid reader, consuming books daily with a preference for literature, history and politics. She will be dearly missed.
The family wishes to extend their warmest thanks to the emergency and sixth floor staff at Scarborough General Hospital. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Diabetes Canada.
