Terry Franzke

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Volker Terrence (Terry) Franzke on July 5, 2025 at the age of 78. Terry leaves behind his loving wife of 38 years, Louise Stratford, and his two cherished sons, Andrew (Erica) and Will (Marissa).

Terry was born in East Germany in 1946. Not long after Terry was born, his late parents, Wilhelm and Ilse, escaped and immigrated to Kitchener, Ontario, to start a new life. Despite his modest stature, Terry excelled at sports throughout his childhood, particularly hockey, which was well-suited to his disposition. As a young man, he was a tough customer, approaching sports in the same way that he ultimately approached life – by never backing down from a challenge. Terry prided himself on his humble origins, often referring to himself as a “little old country boy from Kitchener.”

Terry’s upbringing was the forge for his burning desire to be successful. He obtained master’s degrees in economics and business and went on to work in management positions in various companies throughout Ontario. Not one to easily submit to authority in the corporate setting, Terry eventually started his own investment banking company. Although he enjoyed success on this path, he was still eager to do that “one last deal”.

Despite his material success, Terry would have been the first to tell you that his proudest legacy was his family. He married his beloved wife Louise in 1987, and they went on to raise two fine sons, Andrew and Will. Terry was a great Dad to the two boys; ever-present, a strong role model, and always ensuring that he said “I love you” at every opportunity. Terry will be sorely missed, but his legacy lives on through a close-knit family that loved him deeply.

A private family service will be held at Paul O’Connor Funeral Home on Sunday, July 13th. In lieu of flowers, a gift to North York General Hospital (https://nyghfoundation.ca/?form=Web&utm_source=HospitalNav) would be most appreciated. Condolences can be left on this memorial page."
