Alexis Nichols passed away on January 13, 2017 at his home in Scarsdale New York. He was 84 years old. Mr. Nichols was born on March 3, 1933 in Athens Greece to Costas and Sophia Nicolacopoulos. Mr. Nichols attended Athens College and graduated from The University of Edinburgh in Scotland. He came to The United States while serving in the Greek Navy. He was stationed at the submarine school in New London CT which is where he met the love of his life and future bride, Despina (Debbie) Orphanides. Mr. Nichols spent most of his career in Greek shipping as the President of Brokerage and Management as well as serving as the President of the Maritime Association. Mr. Nichols was predeceased by his wife Despina Debbie Nichols and is survived by his daughters Sonia and Christina Nichols as well as his two grandsons Alex and Nick Visnius. Visiting will be Monday 4-8pm at Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Homes in Scarsdale. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday 10AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church 10 Mill Road in New Rochelle. Interment will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye NY.
