FLEISIG, Louis—on January 23, 2019. After a difficult year of dialysis treatment, on his own accord he checked himself into Calvary Hospice where he died peacefully. He was predeceased by Carrie, his beloved wife of 57 years, and is survived by son Neal, daughter Elizabeth, and grandchildren Eric, Daniel, and Joseph. Lou was born on April 23, 1926 in Brookline , Massachusetts. A US Navy vet, he served two years 3 months during World War II, much of that time in the Pacific. After returning to civilian life, he educated himself at CCNY (City College, then known as Harvard-on-the Hudson). Lou worked for years as a project engineer, managing worksites all over the world. While he was a quite effective manager and enjoyed his profession, he joked that it took him about 45 minutes to get used to being retired. He thrived in retirement—mentor, volunteer, world traveler with Carrie, doting grandfather. His Scarsdale home was a happy one. He had his own “man cave” before that term existed, where he would read from his world-class book collection, listen to opera, and work on his computer. Lou liked to say that W.C. Fields was his alter-ego. While he certainly had a curmudgeonly streak, it did not run deep. He was a generous soul who loved people and was the first one you would call if you needed something. Lou, you had a nice run. We will miss you.
