Marion W. Briggs

Marion Williams Briggs of Scarsdale, NY passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2016. Born July 24, 1919 in New York City, she has resided in Scarsdale for the last 83 years. Marion was a graduate of Centenary College of New Jersey and Douglas College Rutgers, and received her master’s degree in education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She was married to her beloved husband, Cortlandt P. Briggs, for 60 years before he passed away in 2001. Marion was a lifelong member of the Scarsdale Community Baptist Church, Scarsdale Golf Club, and Scarsdale Women’s Club. She is survived by her daughter Gwendolyn Briggs Guthrie and her husband William V. Guthrie of Chappaqua, NY and her son, W. Randolph Briggs and his wife Jeanette K. Briggs of Port Chester, NY. Four grandchildren also survive her, Suzanne Guthrie Harmon and her husband Dave of Pleasantville, NY, William V. Guthrie Jr. and his wife Kara of Loudonville, NY, Sandra Guthrie Dauk and her husband John of Darien, CT and Daniel D. Briggs of Northampton, MA. She was a loving great-grandmother to Kathryn and Molly Harmon, Caroline, Courtney, Annie and Will Guthrie, and Jack, Lindsey and Kate Dauk. Visiting hours will be on Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 1-4 pm at the EDWIN L BENNETT FUNERAL HOMES 824 Scarsdale Ave. Scarsdale, NY (914) 725-1137. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Scarsdale Community Baptist Church.
