

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Hawkins), with whom he recently celebrated their 66 wedding anniversary. His is also survived by his daughters Karen (Brauner) and Kathryn (Granzen) and two son-in-laws, Matthew Brauner and Gerald Granzen and grandchildren Christopher & Laura Brauner and Kelly and Kristin Granzen. He also leaves behind two sons, Peter and daughter-in- law Carol, as well as Richard, Jr. His son, Christopher predeceased him in 2002.
As a child Richard attended the Newman School in Lakewood, NJ.
He was a Technical Sergeant of the 54th Armored Infantry Battalion in WW2. Following the war he graduated Dartmouth College in1946 with a degree in English Literature. He joined NBC Television as a Page after his graduation from school. He spent his career at NBC with many professional accomplishments that included being the Unit Manager for “Your Show of Shows” as well as producing the 1959 televised production of “Peter Pan” starring Mary Martin. For many years he was the NBC East Coast Casting Director and in 1962 was recognized as part of a Group-Emmy for casting the “Purex Specials For Women” for Outstanding Daytime Production. From 1958 – 1960 Richard served on the Governor’s Committee, Activities Committee and Membership Committee with The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences
His final position before retiring from the NBC was as Director of Corporate Events and Services.
Richard was also an active member of Community Theater in Westchester County. In the 1960’s and 70’s he appeared in several productions at SHS that were produced to support the Scarsdale PBA Association. Following his retirement he wrote, directed and appeared in several productions as a member of The Greenville Community Theater Group.
He and his wife Margaret were lifetime celebrants at St. Pius X Church in Scarsdale, including serving as original contributors to the construction of the church.
Memorial Visitation will be Thursday from 3-7PM at the Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Homes, Scarsdale. Funeral Mass will be Friday September 22, 2017 at 1:30PM at St. Pius X Church, Scarsdale. Interment will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne.
