

Thomas Raymond Farrell passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 4, 2025. Tom was born in Oceanside, NY to Edward & Margaret Farrell. Born on April 5, 1940, he grew up with six siblings – Edward, Mary Ellen, Martin, Peggy Anne, Patty & Kathleen. He attended St. John’s University where he earned a BS in Education and an MS in Early Education. Tom met the love of his life, Marion McClarnon, at a dance in Queens in 1970. Immediately smitten with her, he earnestly began his courtship of her and married her in August of 1971.
He spent his career helping others – as a teacher, a principal, social worker, and a counselor. Through his work, he served as a listening ear, a helpful hand, and a creative advocate for downtrodden and economically disadvantaged families and individuals. He loved his work and was constantly inspired by the resiliency and integrity of the people. Tom had a great sense of wonder – and was in awe of the magnificence of life. He was a devoted Catholic who volunteered as a lector at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. He was a role model to his children, who were inspired by his lived example of faith, hope and charity, as well as his creativity, sense of humor, and sense of awe. Tom was a skilled artist, as well as gifted writer, avid storyteller and lifelong poet. He loved kayaking, the ocean and growing organic vegetables in his backyard, and sharing them with family and neighbors.
Tom will be remembered for his joyous laugh which filled the room with delight, and for his grand sense of wonder for the world. Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Marion, and his three adoring children, Thomas Edward, Mary Anne, and Sean.
Tom’s wake will be on Tuesday April 8, 2025, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at Bennett Funeral Home located at 824 Scarsdale Avenue, Scarsdale, NY 10583. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, in Scarsdale NY on Wednesday April 9 at 10am. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery Valhalla NY
