Jay Russell Ober

Jay Russell “Russ” Ober, 91, passed away Friday, November 27, 2015 in the Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim. He was the husband of the late Dorothy M. Grube Ober. He was born on November 21, 1924 in Clay Township a son of the late Lloyd B. and Edna F. Zartman Ober. Russ was a graduated of Ephrata High School, class of 1942, farmed for 25 years and worked for Elizabeth Township and also served as a supervisor for 16 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy. Russ was a life member of the Brickerville Fire Company where he served on the membership chairman committee and was an apparatus driver. He was a member of the Brickerville United Lutheran Church and served on the St. John’s Cemetery Board and a member of the Wilkins Flat hunting camp in Tioga County since 1950. He is survived by children, Dennis Ober and wife Debbie Eby Ober of Lititz; Linda Bomberger and husband Tim of Lititz; Nancy Groswold and husband Eric of Arvada, CO; daughter in law, Rachel Sechrist Ober of Lititz; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; sisters, Kathryn Zimmerman and husband Roy of Brethren Village; Jean Lorah and husband Carl of Ephrata; brothers, Alton Ober of Akron; Luther Ober of Pleasant View Retirement Community; Lester Ober of Ephrata; Carl Ober of Ephrata. He was preceded in death by a son, James Russell Ober. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at 10:00 AM in the Brickerville United Lutheran Church, 340 E. 28th Division Highway, Lititz, PA, with a viewing beginning on Wednesday at 9:00 AM. Interment will be made in the St. John’s Cemetery, Brickerville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 N.
