
She lived a long full life as a career woman, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Born on September 4, 1925 in Margate, New Jersey to Irish and German immigrants – Elizabeth Clare Devlin and George Joseph Wolf (Wolfee as he was known). Elizabeth spent her younger years on the beaches of Margate in full view of “Lucy the Elephant,” and the Green House Café.
Elizabeth had a distinguished legal career after graduating as the valedictorian of Holy Spirit High School, working for a prestigious law firms in Atlantic City, Philadelphia, and New Orleans. Upon her arrival the law firm of Deutsch, Kerrigan $ Stiles in New Orleans (after leaving the military) it became quickly apparent to her that everyone was afraid of the “wonder boy” known as Rene, but Elizabeth took him as just another lawyer and during her first dictation session she informed him to “stop looking out the window, take the cigar out of your mouth, and look at me!” They got along great during her years.
Elizabeth is a distinguished World War II and Korean War veteran serving in the United States Navy. After graduating first in her class, out of a class of 200 (a plaque still stands on display in honor of her accomplishment), at the Navy School of Military Justice at the U.S. Naval Base in Newport, Rhode Island. Elizabeth served on the legal staff of the Commandant of the Eighth Naval District in New Orleans.
After her husband’s retirement from the U.S. Navy, the two of them settled in Marshfield, Massachusetts where they have resided since 1967 with their six children. Elizabeth was a gourmet cook and baker. All of the neighborhood children loved to come to her kitchen to smell her famous cakes and pies.
Elizabeth loved her parish church – Saint Christine’s. She worked on many fundraising projects and was one of the original members of the Saint Christine’s Saint Vincent DePaul Society.
In her later years Elizabeth loved to travel with her husband. They ventured to Ireland, England, France, Germany, Spain and Italy. She so enjoyed interacting with the people from this vast list of countries.
Elizabeth firmly believed that a good mother makes a happy home and that a family is a circle of strength and love. With every birth and every union the circle grew. Every joy shared added more love and every crisis or tragedy faced made her circle stronger.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband Ernest Harold, bother William Wolf and his wife Eleanor and a sister Rosemary and husband Massime Guerrieri. Both still reside in Margate, New Jersey. Also, her children Lorie DeLorenzo, Gerry O’Donoghue and husband Kevin, Beth Fellini and husband John, Daniel Harold and wife Joan and Jackie Williams and husband Eddy. Elizabeth also has 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 15th in St. Christine Church, 1295 Main Street (Route 3A), Marshfield, MA at 11AM,followed by burial in Couch Cemetery, Marshfield, MA.
