She was born on November 20, 1928 in Boston, Mass. to Alfred V. Huntley Jr., and Ricarda Christiansen Huntley and grew up in Milton, Mass. She was a 1948 graduate of Westbrook Junior College in Portland, Maine, and married Bowen Buckman, Jr in 1950. They were longtime residents of Scituate, Mass. until Bowen’s death in 1975. She married Arthur Rugani in 1983 and they lived in Marshfield together until his death in 2000.
Joan continued to live in Marshfield, most recently at The Village at Proprietors Green. She worked for Brown Ledge Camp in Colchester, VT after marriage and in a variety of business roles on the south shore of Massachusetts after having children. She was a lifelong gardener, enjoyed traveling, meeting her “pool girl” friends and time with her family. She also was a long-time volunteer, and treasurer at Scituate Etrusco Associates.
Joan is survived by her daughter Ricarda Bowser (James) of Pembroke, Mass., and her son Jeffrey Buckman (Meera) of Shelburne, VT. She is also survived by four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husbands, and brother Richard Huntley.
