

John Francis “Jack” Hurley of Scituate, Massachusetts, and North Port, Florida passed away unexpectedly on January 24, 2025, in North Port, Florida. Born and raised in Quincy, Massachusetts. Jack was the devoted husband of Carol Lee Kristian, his loving wife of over 59 years, with whom he shared a lifetime of cherished memories. Together, they raised a close-knit family, including their children: Bridget Hurley Dunn of Scituate; Tara Hallenbeck (Scott) of Cohasset; Stacy Paterno (Franco) of Barrington, RI; and John Hurley (Dymphna) of Walpole. Jack’s legacy lives on through his 15 grandchildren: Liam, Shannon, McKenna, Maeve, Ciara, Sheila, and Matthew Dunn; Haley (Hallenbeck) Herman and Ryan Hallenbeck; Kristiana, Daniela, and Gianfranco Paterno; Meghan, Shane, and Catherine Hurley; as well as his great-grandson, Hudson Herman.
Jack was the son of the late Walter J. and Josephine (MacDonald) Hurley. He was the beloved brother of the late Walter J. Hurley Jr. and his wife, Joyce, of Hingham; Janice Wood of Weymouth and her late husband, George; and Stephen Hurley and his wife, Christine, of Hingham.
Jack graduated from Quincy High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Boston College after serving honorably in the U.S. Navy at the close of the Korean War. An avid sailor in his youth, he competed on the Boston College Sailing Team and in international competitions alongside his brother, Steve. He was also a dedicated weekend skier.
Deeply involved in his community, Jack served on the Scituate Pop Warner and Scituate Etrusco board of directors. He was also active as a coach for the Scituate Youth Center. Later in life, he found his true passion on the golf course. A proud member of Hatherly Country Club in Scituate, MA, for over 45 years and Heron Creek Country Club in North Port, FL, for the past 15 years, he played as often as he could, forming lifelong friendships while enjoying the game he loved.
Jack’s career in the healthcare industry spanned over 40 years, driven by his entrepreneurial spirit and keen business acumen. From designing and patenting innovative hospital cribs to negotiating major hospital construction and remodeling projects to durable medical equipment sales, his work was always guided by a strong ethical foundation—finding success while doing the right thing.
Jack’s enduring faith, warmth, humor, and deep love for his family and friends will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jack’s memory to the Scituate Youth Center.
A visitation will be held Sunday February 2, 2025 from 4 PM to 7 PM at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd, Scituate, Ma. A funeral service will take place on Monday February 3, 2025 at 10am from St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate, MA.
