
Julia was born and raised in South Boston, attended Boston College School of Nursing, and worked as a head nurse at Boston City Hospital. She served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps during WWII and the Korean War. After tours of duty at U.S. Naval Hospitals in Chelsea and Seattle, Camp Lejeune (NC), and aboard the USNS General Rose, she met her husband, Cdr. Shelby C. Leasure, Jr., at the Newport (RI) Naval Station. They settled in Scituate in 1960 in the home where Julia continued to live independently until her passing.
Daughter of the late Michael J. & Julia Agnes (McCarthy) Ryan. Beloved wife of the late Shelby C. Leasure, Jr. Mother of Patricia Leasure and her husband Michael Rubin of Reading. Extremely proud grandmother of Caitlin Julia Rubin and Matthew Ethan Rubin. The last of her generation of the Ryan family, Julia was predeceased by her siblings: Margaret Burns of Charlestown, Anna Ryan of South Boston, John Ryan of Tenafly, NJ, Michael Ryan of Milton, Timothy Ryan of Farmington Hills, MI, and James Ryan of Quincy. Julia is survived by many loving and devoted nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning, April 30 at 11AM at St. Anthony Church, Cohasset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate on Wednesday, April 29 from 4-8PM. Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, VA.
