Karyn Elizabeth Yanarella

Karyn Elizabeth Yanarella – 67, of Brockton, passed away on March 27, 2026.

Born in Weymouth, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of [the late] Michael E.and Lois (Hodgdon) Yanarella. She was previously married to Charles Stafford Short Jr whom she shared two sons with. Mother of Charles (CJ) Stafford Short III and wife Laura Short of Scituate and Corey Short of Brockton. Grandmother of Charlotte (10) and Thomas Short (6) of Scituate. Sister of Kathy Donahue of Kingston, Susan Clancy of Buzzard’s Bay , and Lisa Yanarella of Onset. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Ashley and Scott Woodward of Kingston, Jillian and Ian Neubecker of Plymouth, Sean Clancy of Dennis and Michael Clancy of Buzzard’s Bay, Arnie Tavares of Providence, RI and Ashantay Tavares of Onset .

Karyn grew up in Scituate, daughter of a Scituate Police Officer and one of four girls. Karyn was a lover of animals, especially birds. Birds to her were a symbol of hope, gentleness and connection. Karyn was known for her razor sharp wit and infectious sense of humor. She had the remarkable ability to make people laugh. She was known for her memorable one-liners. “Jeipers!” Family gatherings were always louder and stories were always funnier with Karyn. What Karyn loved most was her granddaughter Charlotte. She called her “Cupcake”. She always talked about how much she loved her Cupcake.

Service arrangements are pending.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Karyn’s memory can be made to National Alliance of Mental Illness or Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts.
