

Sorrentino-Michael of Scituate, Massachusetts passed away peacefully at age 78 on Sunday, July 11th, 2010 after a long-term illness. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lucille Sorrentino and three daughters and three son-in-laws: Michelle and Jim Daniels of Scituate, MA, Dana and Matthew Duggan of Scituate, MA, Heather and Benjamin Robertson of Port Jefferson, NY and five grandchildren: Jay Daniels, Jennifer Daniels, Jessica Daniels, Ryan Robertson, Samuel Robertson; his mother-in-law, Mary Todisco of Brooklyn, NY; his many nieces and nephews and his loyal dog, Suki. Michael Sorrentino was born in Brooklyn, New York and relocated to Scituate, Massachusetts in 1972. He was in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955 and was a Korean War Veteran. He was a nationally acclaimed artist and the recipient of numerous awards including the prestigious New England Watercolor Society’s Gold Medal of Honor. His work appeared on the covers of Yankee Magazine and Down East Magazine. He was educated at the Brooklyn Museum Art School, The New York City School of Art and Design, The Arts Student League and at the age of 73, he took classes in sculpture at the Massachusetts College of Art. He had one-man exhibitions at the Hammer Galleries in New York; The Guild of Boston Artists and The Boston School of Architecture in Boston; Sisti Galleries in Buffalo, NY and others. He had been included in exhibits at the DeCordova Museum; the Berkshire Museum, MA; Salmagundi Club; The National Arts Club, NYC; the Philadelphia Watercolor Club, PA and the Greenwich Workshop Gallery, CT. He was represented in private and corporate collections throughout the United States and abroad. He was the owner of Gannet Galleries in North Scituate, MA. He was a clothing designer in New York from the 1950’s to the 1980’s. He designed Men’s suits and outerwear for the Pierre Cardin label. He worked for Harry Irwin and Company in NY and other apparel manufacturers. He traveled extensively for work to South Korea and Chile and retired in 1995. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved art and design of all kinds. He enjoyed telling a good joke; talking about politics and reading Greek mythology. He also was an expert and a collector of ancient Asian artifacts. He will be sadly missed and forever loved by all who knew him. Visiting hours will be held at the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home at 382 First Parish Road in Scituate, MA on Thursday, July 15th from 4 to 8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 16th at 10 AM at St. Mary’s of the Nativity Church at 1 Kent Street in Scituate Harbor; interment immediately following at St.Mary’s Cemetery.
