Nancy was the dearest mother to her children and their families, Alice and Roger Montgomery, Bob and Kelly Kroeger, John and Amy Kroeger, Ellen Mulvey, and Bill and Katie Kroeger, as well as her pride and joy, her fourteen grandchildren, Will, Lauren, Kate, Jay, Joey, John, Jenny, Lily, Torie, Grace, Joseph, Thomas, Jackson, and Blake. She was the daughter of the late Luther S. And Cecelia Pugh, as well as the sister to JoAnn and John. She is also predeceased by her brother Bill. She was beloved by her extended family.
Nancy was a teacher at the beginning of her career for the Panama Fruit Company. She went on to teach for Army schools in Germany. Upon her return to the States, she began her master’s work at Georgetown University, which was sadly cut short by a car accident. She pivoted and began her family, moving to Scituate on December 23, 1972, with 5 children and a cat in tow.
While raising her family she held numerous jobs. She painted crafts and purses, with Welch’s and The Women’s Exchange as her primary customers. She was the proud co-owner with her sister JoAnn, of Seasonings, an accessory company to Talbots in the 1980’s. She earned a degree in technical writing, working to support a local attorney. She ultimately returned to teaching, first at St. Joseph’s School in Quincy and retiring from Gate of Heaven in South Boston. After caring for her mother along with her siblings for many years, she volunteered at the Scituate Historical Society, the Mossing Museum, Meals on Wheels, and the Scituate Etrusco.
Nancy loved to travel, visiting numerous countries after retirement, exploring and absorbing culture wherever she went. She learned to tango in Argentina, explored Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Budapest, and many more through the Elder Hostel program. She was an avid artist, most notably responsible for Scituate handbags sold at the Welch Company back in the day. She loved knitting, reading and the Bachelorette! Later days found her living life at a slower pace, but one where she was surrounded by those she loved.
