With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Orlindo A. Fontes, who peacefully departed this world on May 17, 2025 at the age of 71.
Born on April 15, 1954, on the island of Fogo, Cape Verde, Orlindo was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, and friend. His life was a testament to hard work, kindness, and an unwavering love for family and community.
Orlindo took great joy in spending time with his loved ones, cherishing every moment together. He found immense happiness in living in Scituate, where he embraced the town’s coastal beauty, fostered deep connections with the community, and cultivated landscapes that reflected his care and dedication. His craftsmanship was evident in everything he touched, from welding ships at Quincy Shipyard to enhancing Scituate’s charm through his work at the Department of Public Works, as well as in the vibrant flower beds and gardens he meticulously nurtured.
A lifelong Boston sports fan, Orlindo reveled in decades of championships, but nothing brought him more joy than the presence of his grandchildren, Ethan and Lucas. Their laughter and love were among his greatest treasures.
He was predeceased by his parents Joao Monteiro Fontes and Vitalina (Veiga) Fontes. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Maria L. (Ribeiro) Fontes; his son, David Fontes and daughter-in-law Margarita Fontes; his daughter Daniela Fontes-Fried and son-in-law, Nathan Fontes-Fried; his adored grandchildren, Ethan and Lucas Fontes-Fried; his six siblings—Orlando Fontes, Carlos Fontes, Helena (Fontes) Miranda, Eunice (Fontes) Medina, Rudolfo Fontes, and John Fontes - along with their families. He will be deeply missed by extended family and countless friends whose lives he touched with his warmth and generosity.
