Remembering Paul with many fond memories of our days in Scituate with you all.  We did have a lot of fun back then, didn't we?  You will all be in my thoughts.

The eulogy for dad from Paul Joseph:  On behalf of my family, I would like to thank you for attending our celebration of Paul Bradford Hoban's life.  today we are all suffering from the pain and sorrow of losing him, but as each day passes the grief will subside and the many fond memories of his life with us will be remembered.
To many, Paul may have been seen as a common/average man, but we all know and realize he was something far greater than ordinary.  Where he developed his love for life and his family, his energy and determination, his unwillingness to accept defeat may not be pinpointed on a specific event during his adolescence, but as many of  us believe it may have occurred on that one fateful day, July 8th, 1951, in Inje, Korea.  Critically wounded in the foothills of North Korea, he soon found himself fighting for his life.  If not for the corpsman that found him clinging to life while lying in the morgue, 4 of us would not be here today.
His recovery from his wounds took years and for all intents and purposes he returned to the states a broken men, both physically and emotionally.  Despite these overwhelming odds this young marine never abandoned his dreams and his commitment to his family.
So the man that my sisters and I knew......was to put it mildly.........driven and his love for his savior, Jesus Christ, was never misunderstood.  There was no such phrase as "I can't," spoken in our home, quitting was never an option and we were all expected to attend college and become professionals.  Our individual dreams and ambitions were never his focus, rather success and happiness was his inspiration..........and inspiration he provided!
Yes, the five of us were his marines.....to train and mold into model citizens.  In our younger years we learned discipline, respect and various other Marine Corps traditions.  We marched to bed (in step of course), we took our orders, we respected our seniors (adults), spoke only when spoken to, and we were educated in terms of adapting and overcoming God's many challenges.  Of course our most memorable event in our Marine Corps training was learning and singing the Marine Corps Hymn, and sign we did.  I should note, all the neighbor kids could sing the "Halls of Montezuma" and this historical event consistently makes our top 10 childhood experiences!
Although dad was noticeably handicapped, during our childhood he never spoke of his physical limitations nor did he view himself as crippled.  So our "normal" was acceptable as our dad was not only a Marine, but a hero and so much more.  Dad was our mentor, counselor, drill sergeant, protector, our Shepard and we were his sheep.   His unconditional love for us was unwavering.  From our perspective, super heros did not wear capes, they wore dog tags.  I can undoubtedly say that we had the best childhood one could ever imagine!
As my sisters and I moved on, each of us taking a different walk in life, Dad soon directed his motivation and attention to the grandchildren.  They became his focus and as always the family was his mantra.  Displaying his passion and love for his family, he went so far to build a home on the cape, and as expected it quickly became the mecca for our family!  But throughout our adult lives, dad was always there for us, fulfilling the same roles as he did years earlier.
Obviously, I would be naive not to recognize and thank my mother for being our pillar of strength.....we all know how much Mom and Dad loved each other, we understand that Dad would not be the man we knew and loved if not for Mom's tireless efforts and unyielding love.  Thank you Mom for the 60 plus years of absolute joy, support and unforgettable memories!  Whether you knew Paul Bradford as a husband, father,  brother, uncle, grandfather, colleague or a fellow marine you realize that he loved life, his family and his country!
Dad, we'll miss your stories, never ending support, that remarkable sense of humor, the smile and laughter.  you are our inspiration.
It is fitting that we use some military tradition to say goodbye.

Dear Mary and Family:  I am so sorry to hear about Uncle Paul.  My heart goes out to you and your family.  Tom and I have many wonderful memories of him, and he is in heaven with our mom and dad.

You will call,   And I myself will answeryou.  For the work of your hands you will have a yearning.  Like Job          can look forward to a time when god will call and he will answer.

Offering our deepest condolences during this difficult time.

We have such fond memories of Uncle Paul, from the many family gatherings as kids and as we became adults as well. He was always interested in what was going on with us and our families and was so proud of his wife Mary and his children. He liked to share the stories of early gatherings with the "Trey" family, including Marie and Louis, where it was "always a great time", as he would say. Uncle Paul will be deeply missed. With our sincere condolences to Aunt Mary and the kids.

My condolences go out to the Hoban family. I have many fond memories of Mr. Hoban, both in Weymouth and in Scituate. I picture him playing tennis or walking the dogs, but will always remember that he had a great sense of humor, and that was passed on to his family..  God Bless
