

Robert was born in the family farmhouse on April 14 1920, in North Yarmouth Maine. After attending a one-room schoolhouse he went on to Gorham College. He left college to enlist in the Navy Reserves as a pilot during WWII. From 1942 to 1946 he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, stationed at Dutch Harbor, Alaska. After he was released from active duty in 1946 (continuing in the Naval Reserves until retirement in 1966 as a Lt. Commander), he attended Boston University earning B.S and M.S degrees. While at BU he met Leona Skolfield, who was also a returning veteran. They fell in love and were married for 59 years until her death in 2007. He taught Industrial Arts in the Towns of Duxbury and Belmont, retiring in 1979. Robert is survived by two sons; Robert Vaughan and his wife, Deborah of Hanson Mass, Richard Vaughan and his wife, Nancy of Thornton NH, three grandchildren; Nathan Vaughan and wife Sara of NC, Kenneth Vaughan of Texas, and Kristen Jackson and her husband Dan, 1 great granddaughter; Madison Jackson of NH. Robert is brother of the late Ray, Roger, and Alice. Private burial will be held in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA on Friday, June 28th at 1PM. A gathering of friends and family will be held at the family home in Minot, MA on Saturday, June 29th at 1pm.
